Amazon Prime fans ‘regret nothing’ after ditching work to binge addictive new drama

Amazon Prime’s new show has just dropped, and it has already won fans over as one of the ‘best teen dramas in years’.

If there’s one thing the streaming giant has cracked, it’s how to make an enthralling young adult drama packed with high stakes, love triangles and emotional family dynamics.

So whether you’ve been obsessed with The Summer I Turned Pretty (who amongst us didn’t tune into this guilty pleasure), Off-Campus (another ice hockey show capturing hearts), or Every Year After (the perfect slow burn about first love) – there’s another show to dig your teeth into.

If you’ve somehow missed it, the new eight-part drama called Sterling Point – from My Old Ass filmmaker Megan Park – just dropped, filled with sisterhood, secrets and stunning vistas at the heart of it.

The synopsis reads: ‘After discovering she’s inherited a remote island in Canada from the estranged grandfather she was never allowed to meet, 17-year-old Annie Jacobson decides to investigate, pulling her into a world of buried secrets, unexpected sisterhood and the complicated family history she was never meant to find.’

Our lead character Annie is played by breakout star Ella Rubin, joining the crop of young YA drama standouts to have their careers launched in the past year alongside The Summer I Turned Pretty’s Lola Tung and Off Campus’ Ella Bright.

It seems the episodes, which only landed on Wednesday, have already made quite the impression on viewers and critics alike.

Despite hardly being out for 24 hours, many fans have already binged the show and are demanding a second season – something that will likely come sooner than later if the buzz is anything to go by.

‘Ok officially done with sterling point and wow i loved it i need season 2 now it was so hilarious,’ beckagnist wrote on X.

‘I totally wrecked my work schedule for this and I regret nothing,’ TeerakTV joked.

‘Sterling Point having an interesting plot, incredible soundtrack, beautiful cast, stunning cinematography AND sapphic storylines,’ lunarstide praised.

‘They’re (me) calling it the best teen drama in years,’ spidermannwh said.

Comicsreelz declared that Prime has ‘another massive hit on their hands’, especially hailing the ‘cast chemistry’ and ‘phenomenal’ acting.

‘Not exaggerating when I say Sterling Point is the best teen drama I’ve seen in years,’ David Opie declared, adding it was ‘funny, sexy, swoony’ and ‘so addictive’.

Some fans regretted that it was such a short season, wishing it had the old-school 22 episode length.

The Wrap reflected: ‘It’s funny, charming and knows when to go for the jugular on existential coming-of-age musings.’

‘Teen shows are a TV staple, but great ones are rare, and this series from Park is on its way there,’ The Playlist foreshadowed.

‘If escapism is the brief, then Sterling Point fulfils it expertly. Sure, it doesn’t carry the intensity or the existentialism of its edgier counterparts. But I was surprised by how long I wanted to stay with these characters,’ The Guardian hailed in a four-star review.
