Xbox’s 25th anniversary is going to be a pricey affair, with a limited edition console set to cost much more than the regular version.

After laying off thousands of people and directly contributing to the current memory crisis which is inflating console prices around the world, it’s easy to forget Microsoft is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Xbox this year.

As a result Xbox has packed this year with new games across its biggest franchises, namely Halo: Campaign Evolved, Forza Horizon 6, and Gears Of War: E-Day – with Fable to come early next year. Additionally, it has a 25th anniversary console, complete with a pee green hue, on the way for later this year.

A reliable leaker has now outed the price and release date of this limited edition console, and for anyone interested, you might want to sit down.

According to insider billbil-kun (via Dealabs), who is consistently accurate with retail leaks, the 1TB limited edition Xbox Series X25 console will cost €899.99 in Europe. A UK price isn’t listed, but this is a €100 jump from the 1TB Xbox Series X with a disc drive.

In the UK, the latter console costs £669.99, so it’s likely we’re looking at somewhere around £750 for the X25.

Incredibly, this €899.99 price is equal to the cost of the PS5 Pro in Europe, which lacks a disc drive but packs twice the storage (the PS5 Pro costs £789.99 in the UK). Another reminder, the Xbox Series X console is nearly six years old at this point, and it originally launched at £449.99, prior to all the price hikes

Even if you compare it to other limited edition consoles, Xbox is asking a lot. Sony’s 30th anniversary PlayStation 5 consoles cost £449.99 in the UK, and in Europe, its price was only €50 more than the standard digital edition model. The 25th anniversary Xbox does come with a disc drive unlike Sony’s console, but it’s still an eye-watering amount.

According to billbil-kun, the Xbox Series X25 console is set to launch Friday, November 27, 2026, which coincides with Black Friday. It’s unclear when pre-orders will open.

Even though it’s clearly designed for collectors, it’s baffling that Microsoft is trying to sell a more expensive, limited edition version of the Xbox Series X – a console barely anyone is buying in the first place.

At this point, fans are looking ahead to Microsoft’s plans for its next generation console, codenamed Project Helix. We know it will run Xbox and PC games, but there’s concern it could also be outrageously expensive
