The opening game of this weekend’s series between the White Sox and Mets is expected to be delayed by rain, but only by a little bit.
The White Sox announced shortly after 6pm that the start time of Friday night’s game will be pushed back by “approximately” 20 minutes, due to “an approaching wave of rain.”
Even without a tarp on the field at the time of the announcement, the Sox are now planning for a 7pm first pitch. With it being Elvis Night at Rate Field, usually the game is opened by a cadre of people landing in the outfield by parachute to open the festivities, which is still expected to take place at some point.
Friday night’s game also marks the return of former All-Star outfielder Luis Robert Jr. playing his first game back at Rate Field since being traded by the White Sox to the Mets in January, in exchange for utilityman Luisangel Acuña and minor league pitcher Truman Pauley. The scheduled starters for Friday night’s tilt are Sean Burke for the White Sox, and Sean Manaea for the Mets.
