<p id=”par-1_37″><a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/prince-harry/?swcfpc=1″>Prince Harry</a> and Meghan Markle may be back in the U.K. But California is still a part of the picture. “I suspect they want the best of both worlds,” royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told <em>Fox News Digital.</em></p>
<p id=”par-2_41″><a href=”https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/prince-harry-meghan-markle-accused-seeking-best-both-worlds-uk-move-expert” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener nofollow”>Schofield thinks that arrangement could give them a lot</a>. “Access to Britain, proximity to the monarchy, and the credibility that comes with Harry’s royal identity,” she said. Meanwhile, America offers the “freedom and commercial opportunities” they gained after leaving royal life.</p>
<p id=”par-3_52″>The couple had proposed a similar arrangement when they announced plans to step back from royal duties in January 2020. They hoped to become financially independent. However, the proposed arrangement ultimately did not go ahead. The eventual arrangement did not allow them to remain working royals while pursuing an independent commercial career.</p>

<p id=”par-4_59″>They then stopped working as senior royals and later settled in California. Now, six years later, talk of a UK base has brought back the old “half-in, half-out” argument. Still, Schofield doesn’t think Harry and Markle are ready to pick a side yet. “Rather than planting one flag, the Sussexes appear to be keeping several doors open,” she said.</p>
<p id=”par-5_41″>The pair built much of their post-royal career in America. Their <em>Netflix </em>deal produced their 2022 <em>Harry & Meghan</em> docuseries. Later, Harry released his memoir, <em>Spare</em>, in January 2023. They also continue their charitable work through <em>Archewell </em>and its production arm.</p>
<p id=”par-6_37″>Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told the outlet that the duo sees themselves as “international citizens.” He added that they “claim that their balance of business activities and trips abroad over the last six years is a success.”</p>
<p id=”par-7_41″>But the UK may pull Harry more strongly than Markle. “Returning gives him an opportunity to reconnect with his country, his family, old friends, and a version of his identity that he walked away from six years ago,” Schofield said. </p>
<p id=”par-8_50″>Harry spent most of his life in Britain. Growing up in the royal family, he served in the British Army and founded the Invictus Games. <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/prince-harrys-former-aide-says-duke-regrets-about-leaving-royal-life-some-members-family-would-welcome-back.html/”>He even admitted to missing it all</a>. “I miss parts of the U.K., of course I do,” Harry said in his May 2025 <em>BBC </em>interview.</p>

<p id=”par-9_42″>The interview came after he lost his appeal over his U.K. security arrangements. Harry also called it “really quite sad” that he could not show Archie and Lilibet the country where he grew up. Schofield sees a clear divide between the couple. </p>
<p id=”par-10_59″>“Harry may see Britain as coming home,” she added. “Meghan may see Britain as somewhere useful to spend part of the year. Those are two very different emotional investments.” Markle’s years as a working royal didn’t end well. During her March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Duchess spoke about the intense pressure she faced inside the royal system. </p>
<p id=”par-11_47″>Separately, Dan Wakeford, founder of<em> Celebrity Intelligence</em>, told the publication, “Harry particularly doesn’t love the life he has in America.” However, <em>Archewell </em>pushed back against the claims that Harry is unhappy in California. The organization said that they were “all unfounded speculation, of which we don’t comment.”</p>
