Casey and Ben Affleck announce dad’s death just months after loss of mum

Casey Affleck has revealed that his and Ben Affleck’s dad has died this year, following the loss of their mum.

The 51-year-old actor broke the news while speaking at the Venice Film Festival on Tuesday, where he was promoting his new film Company.

Casey was joined by his girlfriend Caylee Cowan and his sons Atticus and Indiana, alongside other members of the film’s cast.

Ben, 54, was also in attendance to support Casey, who said that his Gothic vampire-inspired movie was dedicated to both of his parents, who have died within the past year.

‘It’s dedicated to my parents because I lost both my mom and my dad this year, and they were very important to me,’ he said.

‘I really wanted to show this movie to them, and I didn’t get to. I think they would have liked it.’

The news comes after the family announced the death of Casey and Ben’s mum, Chris, who died aged 83 on June 2.

Chris and Timothy divorced when Ben and Casey were young.

Timothy had worked as an actor and aspiring playwright before struggling with alcoholism and taking on a string of jobs.

He later became a counsellor at an alcohol rehabilitation centre in California after getting sober in 1990.

Ben previously spoke about his father’s recovery, describing his sobriety as ‘the principal lesson and legacy of his life’.

In 2020, he told People: ‘Part of being an adult is learning that your parents are just people. They’re not perfect. They were just doing their best.’

An obituary revealed that Chris had been given six months to live in December 2025 and hoped to see Casey’s son Atticus graduate from high school.

She attended his graduation ceremony with the family on May 31. However, she died two days later.

According to her death certificate, she died from cardiopulmonary arrest while visiting her son’s home.

Casey’s new film Company marks his third movie as a director and is competing at this year’s Venice Film Festival.
