Luke Shaw is an injury doubt for Manchester United’s Premier League match against Manchester City this Sunday.

Shaw was replaced late on in United’s 2-2 draw against Everton last Sunday but then missed the 4-0 win over Sabah FK in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Patrick Dorgu started at left-back in Shaw’s absence and Michael Carrick admits the 31-year-old has not been at full fitness this week.

When asked about Shaw’s availability for City’s visit to Old Trafford this weekend, Carrick said: ‘We’ll have to see.

‘We looked after him a little bit going into tonight. He wasn’t quite ready for it, 100 per cent, so we didn’t risk it. But we’ll see how he is over the next couple of days or so.’

Carrick also explained why Bruno Fernandes was not substituted in the second half against Sabah.

United’s captain played a full game for the club’s first game back in the Champions League but appeared to be limping as he left Old Trafford.

‘We only had five subs, so we had to make certain decisions on what that looked like,’ Carrick said.

‘But, of course, he’s like anybody else. He has played an awful lot, but I think we’re developing the group and the squad to be able to accommodate that in different ways.

‘Tonight was just one of those things. There were decisions to be made and he ended up staying on.’
