Breaking down the Bears’ Friday practice at Halas Hall:
Odunze playing
The Bears listed wide receiver Rome Odunze as questionable because of a strained right calf he suffered last week, but he shot through the smoke and said he’s good to go. “I’m feeling ready to go; I doubt I’m questionable,” he said with a smile. “I plan on playing.” He missed five games last season because of a stress fracture in his foot and finished with 44 catches, 661 yards and six touchdowns.
Bagent iffy
Bears coach Ben Johnson was tightlipped about backup quarterback Tyson Bagent, who hurt his back in practice Tuesday and has been out since. The Bears listed him as questionable, and without him, they’d go with 38-year-old journeyman Case Keenum as the backup to Caleb Williams. Keenum last played in 2023.
Woods returns
Starting safety Xavier Woods was back on the field Friday missing part of practice Thursday with a groin injury, signaling he’ll likely play despite being listed as questionable.
Trapilo available?
It’s unlikely the Bears will play left tackle Ozzy Trapilo this early as he recovers from a major knee injury, but they listed him as questionable for the game. Braxton Jones will start.
Play the hits
There’d been a lot of North Carolina-themed music at practice this week, but Friday the Bears stretched to Drake’s “Ran to Atlanta.” That song has a refrain that repeats, “Iceman turnt,” which might’ve made the playlist as a nod to Williams.
