Manchester United Carlos Baleba is not expected to return until December at the earliest after suffering a hamstring injury.

The summer signing was forced off early in the second-half of Tuesday’s Champions League game against Roma.

The former Brighton star made a bursting run into the box but pulled up just as he was about to pull the trigger on goal.

Baleba appeared to be in tears as he limped off the Old Trafford pitch. Having already missed the opening five games of the campaign as a result of an ankle injury he suffered during pre-season with Brighton, he now faces another spell on the sidelines.

Providing an update in his pre-match press conference ahead of the visit of Aston Villa on Sunday, Carrick confirmed Baleba will be sidelined for the duration of the international break which begins after this weekend’s fixtures.

‘We don’t know exactly, but it’ll be a number of weeks,” Carrick said when asked about the severity of Baleba’s injury.

‘It’s definitely not this week and it won’t be any time over the international break. It’ll be a little bit longer than that.’

In addition to the Villa game, Carrick’s comments suggest Baleba will miss United’s first game back after the international break – away to Liverpool on 22 November.

They are on the road again three days later in a crucial Champions League game against Sporting CP before seeing out the month at home to Newcastle.

United begin December away to Newcastle before home games against Coventry City and RB Leipzig.

United are already without Benjamin Sesko until January at the earliest due to his shin injury.
