It follows reports of slim women ending up in A&E after fibbing to get weight-loss jabs from online pharmacies.
Mr Streeting said: “My strong advice to Sun on Sunday readers is do not take any new medical medication without first consulting your GP.
“Whatever you do, do not think that to be Instagram body beautiful that taking this sort of medication is safe or sensible.
“It is a serious risk to our health. And I am really worried about where we are as a society in terms of body image.
“I’m really worried that drugs that could make a positive difference to our health are at risk of being misused.
“And I’m genuinely terrified that someone is going to die.”
He added: “I think we are going to need much closer clinical oversight and regulation.
“I’m going to be looking at that very carefully if we win the General Election.”
NHS England’s medical director Professor Stephen Powis said the drugs should not be seen as a “quick fix for people trying to get beach body ready”.

Although he confessed to trying a shisha pipe abroad.
