The Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued the alert Sunday and extended it through Monday, citing the Point Fire. That blaze had burned 1,100 acres by Monday at 6:45 a.m. and was 20% contained.
The district’s air map early Monday still showed good air quality for much of the region as of 6 a.m. The air was expected to become more polluted as the day progressed.
The alert means it is illegal to burn wood, fire logs, pellets or other solid fuels in fireplaces, wood stoves, outdoor fire pits or any other wood-burning device.
