A teen who was “significantly” stuck in the mud at the beach as the tide was rising was rescued by police and firefighters Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release from Alameda Fire Department.

Authorities responded to the scene near the Encinal Boat Ramp in Alameda just after noon, according to the release. Officers from the Alameda Police Department arrived on scene first to begin the rescue.
Police and firefighters worked together and used a “variety of methods” to free the teen from the mud, authorities said.
After being taken from the water, the teen was transported to the hospital for observation.
