Gilmore Girl fans are thrilled after two of the show’s stars reunited nearly 25 years after it first hit screens.

Premiering in 2000, the comedy-drama series was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and starred Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel as single mother Lorelai and her daughter Rory Gilmore.

It ran for seven seasons, ending in 2007, before it returned in 2016 for a four-part miniseries revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

The series followed the pair’s daily lives in the small town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, with Lorelai want to own and open her own inn, while Rory wants to attend Harvard University.

They also must manage the expectations of Lorelai’s wealthy parents Emily and Richard Gilmore, played by Kelly Bishop and the late Edward Herrmann.

In exchange for paying for their granddaughter’s fees at an exclusive private school, the pair have to attend a weekly dinner on Friday nights.

Now, in a nod to that routine, Lauren, 57, has shared a snap with her on-screen mother, 80.

‘Here’s to the ladies who lunch. #Kelly,’ she posted on Instagram alongside a selfie of them smiling for the camera.

Unsurprisingly, the throwback delighted fans, who couldn’t help but reference the series.

‘Friday night dinners have resumed?!’ user Amanda commented.

‘When Friday night dinners turn into Friday lunches. Hope you both had two glasses of wine,’ Abby posted.

‘I wonder what the terms and conditions where for that lunch,’ Chelsea questioned.

Others said they were ‘crying’ at the reunion, with others asking if a TV reunion was on the cards.

Meanwhile, other famous faces commented, including Mae Whitman, who played Lauren’s daughter in the TV show Parenthood.

She simply wrote ‘faves’, while Beanie Feldstein said: ‘literally all that matters to me.’

Gilmore Girls also starred Melissa McCarthy, Scott Patterson, Milo Ventimiglia and Jared Padalecki, with Chad Michael Murray and Adam Brody also making appearances.

The 2016 special picked up nine years after the last season ended, then finishing with a cliffhanger after Rory revealed she was pregnant.

At the time Alexis told Metro.co.uk that the conclusion was ‘definitely a surprise’.

‘But it’s the sort of conclusion only Amy could design so hopefully fans will love it because it will be authentic,’ she added.

Gilmore Girls is streaming on Netflix.
