Singer and actor Bobby Sherman has died at the age of 81 after a battle with kidney cancer.

The shaggy-haired teen heartthrob was best known as the singer of hit song Little Women.

His wife, Brigette Poublon Sherman, shared the news of Sherman’s death on Instagram, after first announcing earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with stage four cancer.

Sherman is understood to have died on Tuesday morning at his home in the Los Angeles suburb of Encino, a longtime friend told TMZ.

‘Bobby left this world holding my hand — just as he held up our life with love, courage, and unwavering grace through all 29 beautiful years of marriage,’ she wrote.

‘I was his Cinderella, and he was my prince charming. Even in his final days, he stayed strong for me. That’s who Bobby was — brave, gentle, and full of light.’

‘As he rested, I read him fan letters from all over the world — words of love and gratitude that lifted his spirits and reminded him of how deeply he was cherished. He soaked up every word with that familiar sparkle in his eye.’

Sherman’s wife first announced he had been diagnosed with stage four cancer in March, as she told fans he would no longer be able to make public appearances.

‘Thank you so much for still remembering him,’ she wrote on her Facebook page. ‘We really appreciate it.’

During a Fox News interview the following month, she said her husband was ‘shutting down’ and he was ‘at home with special care’.

Sherman was at his professional peak in the the late 1960s and early 1970s, when he had four singles reach the top 10 of the Billboard 100 list — they were Little Woman, La La La, Easy Come, Easy Go and Julie, Do Ya Love Me.

He first shot to fame as an actor on the ABC series Here Come the Brides, after which he became a poster boy for teens and a regular fixture in Tiger Beat and 16 magazine.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Brigette, two sons, Tyler and Christopher, and six grandchildren.
