’90s Actor Unmasked as Paparazzo in ‘Masked Singer’ Season 13

Paparazzo Masked Singer Season 13

*Spoilers ahead for Masked Singer Season 13 Episode 10, “The Lucky 6: Merging of the Masks.”

Well, that’s one less mask on the stage and one more ‘90s throwback we didn’t see coming. “The Masked Singer” Season 13 just unmasked its first Lucky Six contestant; and surprise! Paparazzo turned out to be none other than Matthew Lawrence.

Cue the nostalgic screaming.

And Paparazzo is…

Yep, the same Matthew Lawrence who played Jack Hunter on “Boy Meets World,” Chris in “Mrs. Doubtfire,” Matt Roman in “Brotherly Love” (and appeared in about a million other childhood rewatches) was hiding behind the camera-themed getup. And let’s be real, he did way better than anyone expected, telling Entertainment Weekly that “I honestly was going to say no, because I really do have a fear of singing in front of an audience.” It seems that stepping out of his comfort zone (and into a walking telephoto lens) was all about growth.

“I’m trying to live in that space where I don’t let fear dictate my life,” Lawrence went on to say. “I’m not going to get a lot of these opportunities anymore. Maybe this is the time to jump out of a plane and give it a shot. That’s what it was.”

More On Being Paparazzo

Lawrence then said his personal highlight while filming was “during the “Hallelujah” performance on “Shrek Night,” where I was actually just singing. I just got lost, and I was singing, and that just was lightning in a bottle for me. So I’ll take that with me forever,” (per EW). And yes, that’s as emotionally chaotic as it sounds.

Oh, and just to dial the nostalgia meter to 11, Danielle Fishel (Topanga herself!) popped up on stage, too. Lawrence didn’t even know she’d be there; which made the whole thing even sweeter.

He also got the official TLC stamp of approval from girlfriend Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas (and fellow TLC member Tionne Watkins) before performing “Unpretty.” Chilli gave him the go-ahead and vocal tips, so we love a supportive queen moment, according to People.

Who Are The Final Five?

With Paparazzo out, that leaves five masked hopefuls still in the game and gunning for the Golden Mask: Coral, Boogie Woogie, Pearl, Mad Scientist Monster, and Nessy. It’s anyone’s game at this point. And we’re here for the chaos, the costumes, and whatever unhinged group theme night is next. Who do you think is behind these iconic masks this season?

Lucky Duck, this seasons masked clue-giver, also has yet to be revealed. Fans will remember that Judge Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg’s husband and member of “New Kids on the Block,” Donnie Wahlberg, took on a similar role in Season 5 as Cluedle-Doo, and was unmasked in the semi-final episode after performing “Return of the Mack” by Mark Morrison .

Viewers can catch the next episodes of “The Masked Singer” Wednesdays on Fox at 8 p.m. ET, and on Hulu the next day.
