Musician Moby has revealed that, despite dating some of the biggest stars of his day, he hasn’t gone on a date in more than 10 years.
The 90s music legend, who hit the big time in 1999 with his multi-platinum album Play, has admitted that other things have become more important to him over time.
He was known for living a fast life during the height of his fame, but the Porcelain hitmaker has mellowed significantly on almost every front in recent years – and none more so than relationships.
‘The last relationship I had was about 10 years ago. When it ended there was this little voice that said, “It’s not your lot in life, to have a normal relationship.”‘
Moby – whose real name is Richard Hall – gained a reputation in the media for his promiscuity during the early parts of the 2000s.
He is known to have dated pre-fame Lana Del Rey (who went by Lizzie Grant at the time) and had a close creative relationship with actress Christina Ricci.

But all that now appears to be in his past, telling The Independent: ‘The world of relationships, marriage, family, children… it’s not for [me]. There’s a sadness to that but it also is borne out by my experience.’
The Why Does My Heart Feel So Sad composer caused controversy in 2019 after claiming in his memoir, Then It Fell Apart, that he was briefly romantically involved with Star Wars actress Natalie Portman.
He wrote: ‘For a few weeks I had tried to be Natalie’s boyfriend, but it hadn’t worked out… [then] she informed me that she’d met somebody else. I was relieved that I’d never have to tell her how damaged I was.’

Natalie, however, had very different memories of how things went between them: ‘I was surprised to hear [Moby] characterized the very short time that I knew him as dating, because my recollection is a much older man being creepy with me when I just had graduated high school.’
During the brief time they knew each other, Moby was 33 and Natalie was 20.
After initially referring to Natalie’s account as a ‘lie’, Moby apologised and admitted criticisms of him over the nature of his relationship to Natalie were ‘valid’.
Things are very different for him now: ‘We live in a world where everyone’s obsessed with every aspect of relationships and intimacy. And it’s very strange, when you remove yourself.’
In the same memoir, the We Are All Made of Stars musician described dating Lana Del Rey before she was famous, saying: ‘Lizzie was from Albany. She had short
bleached hair and looked like a beautiful elf.’
Moby wrote that Lana, who was 21 at the time, visited his apartment – the night came to an end when Lana confessed to knowing about his numerous relationships and one night stands.
The 90s popstar has sold millions of albums around the world, achieving three top 10 singles in the UK and two number one albums.
