Spice Girls icon Mel B shared the unlikely source behind her trademark leopard print look in last night’s Celebrity Gogglebox.

The 49-year-old singer appeared on the Channel 4 reality series on Friday with her daughter Phoenix Chi where she spilled the secrets behind the clothing pattern she is regularly spotted in – leopard print.

While watching an episode of Outrageous Homes on Channel 4 one of the guests on the show, Jane, showed up in a leopard print dress – a fact Mel quickly picked up on.

‘Why leopard print?’ Phoenix questioned, ‘I’ve always wanted to ask you that.’

‘Because I’m addicted to it,’ Mel promptly replied.

When Phoenix pushed: ‘Out of all the colors that are in the world…?’ Mel continued: ‘Because I saw Bet Lynch on Coronation Street when I was younger and she was wearing leopard print and I thought “Oh god, one day I’m going to have everything leopard print”. And I did.’

Lest we forget Mel’s iconic leopard print catsuit that she often wears on stage.

Meanwhile, Bet Lynch, played by Julie Goodyear, appeared in an array of leopard print items while her character was on the soap opera.

The beloved character last appeared on the show in 2003.

In 2019, after her divorce from Stephen Beresford, the Scary Spice spoke about how her costumes helped her regain her power while on a Spice Girls tour.

‘It felt brilliant,’ she told Heat magazine at the time, according to the Mirror.

She continued: ‘My costumes were out of this world, and once I had my catsuit on, my weave as big and bouncy as I could possibly make it, and my high heels, I felt invincible.”

‘When I stood on stage in my full Scary Spice outfit, a part of me felt like I was reclaiming who I was, reclaiming those lost years.

‘That was really powerful and poignant for me.’

Earlier this year the music artist also spilled the tea on the mystery behind her bandmate’s, Geri Halliwell, real age.

According to the singer, Geri, 51, spent years lying about her age and was protective of her passport.

‘Well no one knows how old Geri is. No one’s seen her passport,’ she told Olivia Attwood on her podcast So Wrong It’s Right.

She continued: ‘I mean, I know we’ve travelled the world, but I still don’t know how old she is.

‘She claims she just had her 50th birthday, but I don’t believe her.’

As to whether all of the Spice Girls – formed in 1994 – will ever perform again it’s not looking good.

David Beckham, husband of Posh Spice Victoria, had a full reunion for his birthday bash making fans hopeful of a public performance at some point.

‘Unfortunately, that’s not happening,’ David told Variety.

‘Victoria was so pleased to see the girls, and it was a massive part of her life, the girls, but obviously, all the girls have got their own things going on. They will do certain things together at certain times.

‘But Victoria’s full on with her beauty and fashion businesses. If anyone’s busier than me, it’s her,’ he sadly concluded.
