90s Star Says Iconic Film Was a ‘Blast’ But Left Him with Long-Lasting Anxiety

Devon Sawa talks about Anxiety

Devon Sawa has brought to life some of the most memorable characters of the ’90s, from “Casper” to “Stan”, but one strict on-set rule from his early acting days has stayed with him for decades.

On Wednesday, August 13, the actor took to X to share that a wardrobe policy on the 1994 family film “Little Giants” continues to give him “high amounts of anxiety” more than 30 years later.

“On Little Giants, we would get in trouble if we didn’t hang our clothes, including pads and helmet, at the end of each shoot day,” Sawa wrote. “Now, still to this day, if wardrobe takes away my hangers, preventing me from doing so, I get high amounts of anxiety.”

Fond Memories From the Set

Despite the lingering stress from that rule, Sawa, now 46, looks back on “Little Giants” with nothing but affection, in a memorabilia unboxing video with People. The “Final Destination” star unpacked items saved from his career, including his original football helmet and jersey from the film.

“Little Giants was a blast. It didn’t feel like work to me,” Sawa said. “You’re with all these kids your own age, it’s just like summer camp, kinda.”

The “Idle Hands” actor, who grew up in Vancouver, joked that he was “a young Canadian hockey player in full football gear” during the shoot, having never worn a football uniform before.

He also noted that filming “Now and Then” the following year brought a similar “summer camp” vibe.

During the unboxing, Sawa lit up when he found an unopened VHS tape of Little Giants. “I think I can get, like, $750 for this bad boy. … The ol’ VHS tape in the wrapper!” he joked, before making it clear he had no plans to sell it.

In May 2025, “Now and Then” star Sawa credited “Casper” with helping launch his career, saying that even though he was only on set for a week, it was an experience he would never forget.

“It’s one of the movies that I have the most memories of. It was my first big Hollywood film. It was the first time I ever flew in first class,” Sawa told People in May.

“Walking onto Universal and into this sound stage that they had built an entire house on and meeting Steven Spielberg — I didn’t know I was going to do that.”

“It was such a small amount of time that created so many amazing memories,” he added. “And 30 years, that’s crazy that we’re at 30 years now.”

Still in Touch With His Co-Stars

Fans of the ’90s sports comedy will be happy to know Sawa still keeps in touch with several of his “Little Giants” castmates. “They’re old friends,” he said, naming Shawna Waldron (Becky), Marcus Toji (Marcus) & Troy Simmons (Hanon) as some of the people he still talks to today.
