Actor Opens up on Childhood Thoughts Toward Famous Father

Jason Ritter

Actor Jason Ritter has honestly opened up about the childhood anger he had for his father, television star John Ritter. Speaking in an interview, Jason revealed that he felt rage towards his father after he separated from his mother Nancy Morgan, with John then going on to marry Amy Yasbeck before his death in 2003.

Jason Ritter Discusses Anger Toward Father John Ritter

Jason was discussing his early life with Tyler Labine on the “I Love You So Much” when the topic turned to the divorce of his parents.

Labine asked Jason, “We were talking about the anger, like the stuff that we’re mad about as kids. Do you know where that stuff comes from?”

Jason paused before replying thoughtfully, saying, “Probably a lot of it, you know, not to like blame anybody, but I think a lot of it came from my parents’ separation.”

“There were aspects of it that I didn’t understand and it made me very angry in general at people,” he said.

Jason then moved on to discuss his father and how dealing with the hurt he caused was difficult considering the positive reputation that John had with the public. He said, “I obviously had one of the greatest dads in the history of all time. I really believe that. He was such a lovely person, an absolutely dream dad, a good person.”

“And, you know, he hurt us as a family. He didn’t actually say like, ‘No thanks, to you guys. No thanks to this family,’ but that’s a little bit how it felt like. You made a choice where you go away from us.”

The divorce left Jason feeling angry but unable to express it as he didn’t want to hurt his father or anyone else. He said “I didn’t want to betray him. Even saying this right now, I feel like nervous or something, because I loved him.”

Anthony Hopkins Opens Up About Anger

Jason Ritter is not the only actor to speak honestly about the anger they felt in their younger lives. The legendary Anthony Hopkins also recently revealed that he was driven during the beginning of his career by a sense of anger and resentment.

According to the 87-year-old, his parents and teachers lacked belief that he would be able to accomplish anything in his life. He revealed this “gave me a core of anger, resentment, and revenge.”

Hopkins reveals that “the turning point” in his life CAME when he received final school report before leaving school at 17. The negative report caused his father to ask him about what he wanted to do with his life. “What’s going to happen to you?” Hopkins remembers his father asking him. “I said: ‘One day, I’ll show you, both of you.’”
