Actor’s Child Jumps To His Defense After Quentin Tarantino Criticism

Matthew Lillard

After Quentin Tarantino made controversial comments about several actors last week, Matthew Lillard’s child Ace Lillard has come to his defense. Posting a supportive message on Instagram. Ace had a heartfelt message for their father, hitting back at what the “Pulp Fiction” director said about Matthew.

Ace Lillard Comes To Defense of Matthew Lillard

Last week, Tarantino appeared on “The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast” to discuss some of his favorite movies from the 21st century. While ranking the movies, Tarantino selected Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2007 film “There Will Be Blood” but noted that he felt that actor Paul Dano was a point of weakness — something that the likes of Ben Stiller and others have pushed back against.

Speaking to the host, Tarantino said, “It’s supposed to be a two-hander, but it’s also drastically obvious that it’s not a two-hander. [Dano] is weak sauce, man. He is the weak sister.” He then went on to say, “I don’t care for [Dano], I don’t care for Owen Wilson, and I don’t care for Matthew Lillard.”

Ace has since taken to Instagram to defend their father following the criticism. The powerful and emotional statement reads, “To whom it may concern: My dad is a talent, he is a joy, and he will always be my hero on screen and off.”

They added, Not only is my dad the kind of creative I strive to be, but he is the kind of decent, humble human I hope to become. Creatives are supposed to lift each other up, and find empathy for those we may have a hard time understanding. My dad does his best to embody that.”

“What I admire most is the way my dad truly connects with the people who find refuge in his characters and his art. As a young queer person, it is deeply healing to watch my dad do his best to connect with people on the fringes of society, especially young trans people and my community as a whole.”

Accompanying the message are a series of photographs showing Ace and Matthew together at varying times throughout Ace’s life. They went on to write, “It is sad to watch a creative I deeply respect project an opinion onto my father that does not reflect his character or the quality of his artistry in the slightest.”

Concluding the statement, Ace says, “I’m so proud of the year my dad has had and the one that is ahead. He is my day one, and I will always be fiercely proud of him.”

Matthew Lillard Responds To Tarantino’s Comments

Matthew, who famously starred in the 1990s horror film “Scream” alongside Skeet Ulrich has recently been promoting the upcoming “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” for its December release. The actor was also confirmed to be returning for “Scream 7,” despite his character seemingly being killed at the end of the original film.

Per Deadline, Lillard responded to Tarantino’s comments while appearing on stage at GalaxyCon in Ohio over the weekend. “Quentin Tarantino this week said he didn’t like me as an actor. Eh, whatever. Who gives a [expletive],” he exclaimed.

He continued, “Listen, the point is that it hurts your feelings. It [expletive] sucks. And you wouldn’t say that to Tom Cruise. You wouldn’t say that to somebody who’s a top-line actor in Hollywood. I’m very popular in this room. I’m not very popular in Hollywood. Two totally different microcosms, right? And so, you know, it’s humbling, and it hurts.”
