Amazon Prime viewers are being recluses over the Easter weekend to binge-watch a hidden gem thriller.
They have been devouring all eight episodes of ‘one of the best crime dramas on TV’, The Disappearance.
Set in Lyon, France, the show follows the investigation into missing teenage girl Lea (Camille Razat), who vanishes after a music festival.
On Google, viewers have recommended the overlooked French drama but warned that it will be a ‘strain on your nerves’ due to its propulsive twists and turns.
Among them was Al Butt, who said: ‘One of the best crime dramas on TV. Just have to read subtitles but well worth it.’
Echoing their sentiment, Alan Sharp wrote: ‘Excellent. ‘Binge watching is a strain on your nerves! Don’t think you know what really happened before you get to the very end of the last episode. The Scandinavians can do superb, gritty crime drama. So can the French.’

Chrissie Harrison commented: ‘Gripping from start to end with plenty of twists and turns.’
Mary Raffaele also shared: ‘Great show, highly recommend! Every episode leaves you in suspense.’
Originally broadcast in France in 2015, The Disappearance was inspired by Spanish series Desaparecida about a young woman who goes missing in the outskirts of Madrid.
The following year, the thriller aired on BBC Four, where it became a surprise hit, attracting nearly 700,000 viewers despite very little publicity. For context, blockbuster Scandi noir The Killing averaged 800,000 viewers at its peak.
It’s not the only French thriller on Amazon Prime that has gripped viewers.
They’ve also raved about The Returned, a supernatural series about dead people reappearing in a small French mountain town.
‘#thereturned was excellent. I am referring to it as an ‘Alp-spine chiller,’ X user Tiernan Douieb previously said.
Echoing their sentiment, Toby Whithouse wrote: ‘The Returned was amazing! Creepy and beautiful. Such a delight.’

Last month, Amazon Prime viewers praised the ‘terrifying emotional rollercoaster’ of Fear.
It stars Line of Duty’s Martin Compston as Martyn and Anjli Mohindra as Rebecca, whose new neighbour makes chilling accusations that are ‘every parent’s worst nightmare.’
‘Geesh that was a terrifying emotional rollercoaster & great twist too. Loved every minute – not a dull moment, Tracie shared on X.
‘Wow! Fear is top class! It’s scary, emotional, absolutely gripping & bloody brilliant! Wow! That was quite a ride – Superb. Five stars,’ user Team_Compston wrote.
The Disappearance is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
