Amazon Prime Video viewers have had to prise themselves away from their screens after watching an ‘atmospheric’ thriller.
Canadian series The Disappearance is such a compelling crime drama that fans have been rationing the six episodes.
Set in the Montréal suburbs, the French-language show is centred on the disappearance of 10-year-old Anthony (Michael Riendeau), who vanishes from a birthday party.
But the investigation takes a turn when it uncovers dark secrets buried by his family, including parents, Henry (Peter Coyote) and Helen (Camille Sullivan).
On Google, viewers said they were kept ‘guessing until the very end’ by The Disappearance’s ‘unexpected twist.’
Among them was Estelle Berry, who wrote: ‘I loved the show. I found it to be a gripping, poignant story that was well-acted and beautifully filmed. My one criticism of it is the relationship between the nurse and her sick patient; it struck me as very unrealistic and could still have served the plot well if it had been close but less intimate. A Canadian show well worth watching!’

Echoing their sentiment, Catherine Wild said: ‘A good watch. Expected and unexpected twists throughout. Well acted, written and gripping. Once in, I had to stop myself from bingeing the whole series. Peter Coyote is excellent.’
Chris Nixon shared: ‘All I will say is that I am very picky about TV series – and I can tell you now that this was a great TV series to watch!’
Over on IMDb, TJjw-76445 added: ‘Came across this little gem purely by accident & wasn’t disappointed. Lots of impulsive actions & stupid mistakes makes you want to yell at the telly! Highly enjoyable, kept up the suspense & excitement to the climactic end. Well worth the binge.’

The Disappearance is not the only non-English-language thriller gripping Amazon Prime viewers.
They have also been binge-watching Indian supernatural series The Last Hour about the life of a mysterious shaman who can talk to the spirits of dead people Devi (Karma Takapa).
The Hindi-language show sees Devi’s talents deployed to help solve the investigation into the brutal rape and murder of an actress.
He communicates with her soul and relives her last hour in order to amass clues to crack her killer’s identity.
However, Devi’s life is also under threat as he is being hunted down by a dangerous figure from his past.

Viewers who have devoured The Last Hour have labelled it ‘criminally underrated.’
Among them is Reddit user RaatKiRaaani, who said: ‘Such a unique show it was, I remember watching it waay back. It’s criminally underrated they need to bring another season ASAP it has great potential.’
Echoing their sentiment, Google user Astha Arunika raved: ‘Soul-soothing, beautiful and what not!! It will give you a different experience overall. Everything was so perfect about this series, such a perfect cast. Loved every character.’
D Singh enthused: ‘Outstanding!!! Fully enjoyed watching it! Very rich storyline, much thoughtfully created, the idea and art of using native actors so smoothly has got the best out of this production.’
The Disappeared is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
