Amazon Prime viewers planning to move country after drama leaves ‘lasting impression’

Amazon Prime viewers are contemplating jacking in their old lives and moving abroad after watching a ‘remarkable’ drama.

They have been binge-watching Expats, which follows a tight-knit group of expatriates living in Hong Kong.

The six-parter focuses particularly on the lives of three women, including Nicole Kidman’s character Margaret, who is dealing with grief after a terrible accident befalls her family.

Meanwhile, her friend Hilary (Sarayu Blue) is struggling to keep her broken marriage together and 24-year-old Mercy (Ji-young Yoo) is looking for a fresh start and distance from her overbearing mother.

On Google, viewers have said that the ‘amazing’ show Expats has inspired them to ‘pack their bags’ to live the expat life in Hong Kong

Among them is Christopher Kausch, who raved: ‘This is by far an amazing series to watch time and again. It will seriously make you think about dropping what you’re doing, packing your bags, and flying over to HK just to immerse yourself in the wide range of contrasts (mountain vs beach, concrete jungle vs natural jungle, private car vs MTR/bus, glitzy condo vs towering shoebox flats).’

Echoing their sentiment, Moha Gholizadeh said: ‘The mini series I watched was truly remarkable. It portrayed a story from a unique angle, and it wasn’t just another run-of-the-mill storyline. What made it stand out was its ability to tap into the essence of personal growth and progression. The characters were believable, and their arcs were well developed.

‘The show managed to explore themes of identity, resilience, and the importance of staying true to oneself. It was refreshing to see a series that didn’t shy away from the complexities of human nature, and it left a lasting impression on me.’

Armands Fomicevs added: ‘The best series in a long while. Great script, perfect cinematography, and excellent performance of all actors. As expat myself, it was something that resonated with me really well. Action takes place in Hong Kong that is truly vibrant and fascinating place I would love to return to.’

Based on Janice Y K Lee’s 2016 novel The Expatriates, Expats ran for one season in 2024.
