Amy Schumer and her husband, Chris Fischer, are ending their marriage after more than seven years together, the comedian confirmed this week. The announcement follows months of speculation about the state of their relationship and signals a shift for one of Hollywoodâs most candid couples.
Schumer, 44, shared the news on Instagram on Dec. 12, posting a photo of herself and Fischer riding the New York City subway. In the caption, Schumer said the decision was difficult but mutual and emphasized that their priority remains co-parenting their 6-year-old son.
The separation, first reported by People, comes after Schumer publicly denied earlier rumors about marital trouble while also acknowledging that the couple had faced challenges behind the scenes.
A Relationship Lived in Public
Schumer and Fischer met in 2017 and married in February 2018 during a small ceremony in Malibu, California. They welcomed their son, Gene David Fischer, in May 2019. Over the years, Schumer frequently spoke about her marriage in interviews and incorporated personal details into her stand-up comedy and social media presence.
Fischer, a chef and author, remained largely out of the spotlight but occasionally appeared alongside Schumer at public events and in her online posts. Schumer also openly discussed Fischerâs autism diagnosis, often pushing back against public misconceptions and defending her husband when speculation veered into misinformation.
In recent months, fans noticed changes in Schumerâs social media presence. She removed several older posts and appeared in photos without her wedding ring, fueling rumors of a possible split. Schumer addressed the speculation directly, saying her recent weight loss was related to health decisions and medication and not to problems in her marriage, according to E! News.
At the time, she expressed hope that she and Fischer could work through their issues. That optimism, however, did not translate into reconciliation.
Focus on Co-Parenting Moving Forward
In her announcement, Schumer said she and Fischer plan to continue raising their son together and asked for privacy as they adjust to their new dynamic. She did not disclose details about the cause of the separation.
Page Six reported that the couple had been living increasingly separate lives in recent months, while the Daily Mail reported that the marriage had reached a breaking point after years of strain. Neither Schumer nor Fischer publicly commented on those claims.
Despite the split, Schumer framed the end of the marriage as an evolution rather than a collapse. She described her family as âforever,â signaling that while the romantic relationship has ended, their shared commitment to parenting remains intact.
