Anderson Cooper’s Next Career Move Has Been Revealed

Anderson Cooper

Despite speculation that the news anchor and journalist would be leaving CNN for pastures new, it has emerged that Anderson Cooper has signed a new contract that will keep him at the network for the foreseeable future. This ends rumors of him joining CBS or other rival networks after his current contract came to an end.

Anderson Cooper is Staying at CNN

Rumors first began swirling that Cooper could leave CNN after he switched talent agencies from United Talent Agency to Creative Artists Agency. This was seen as a possible precursor of a switch to a different network, with Cooper utilizing the new agency to gain a better deal.

However, Variety is reporting that Cooper has put pen to paper on a new contract that will keep him anchoring on CNN, a network he first joined back in 2001. The outlet cites three sources with knowledge of the matter, claiming that Cooper signed a new contract.

CNN has yet to provide an official announcement about the deal and there’s no solid details about how long the network has tied Cooper down and whether it will see him work on new projects.

Cooper’s contract renewal flies in the face of recent trends, where networks have allowed veteran broadcasters to leave as ratings go down. The fact that the journalist contributes more than just his nightly news show is likely a key factor in him being retained. After all, Cooper also works on “The Whole Story” and the “All There Is” podcast in addition to other coverage.

CBS was seen as the likely destination for Cooper if he departed CNN. The news anchor already has a relationship as he works as a correspondent for CBS News’ “60 Minutes.”

Anderson Cooper Opens Up About Dad’s Passing

Earlier this year, Cooper opened up about how he coped with the loss of his father as a child. While appearing on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Cooper discussed the impact of losing his father at a young age.

“I shut down,” he told Colbert. “I went for 40 years without allowing myself to feel the pain of the grief. But the irony is, by not allowing myself to feel the pain of it, I also didn’t allow myself to ever feel joy. True joy. Because you can’t have one without the other.”

He added, “It’s only in the last two years, by feeling this grief and this sadness, that I’ve been able to feel joy. And I have a lot to feel joy about because I’ve got these two little boys who are just incredible.”
