Broadcaster Andrew Marr left listeners worried after sounding very unwell during his prime-time radio show.

The media personality, 66, was hosting his usual LBC live slot, Tonight with Andrew Marr, on Thursday evening when he appeared to start struggling to get his sentences out and seemed short of breath.

While reading news bulletins at around 6:30pm, he appeared to become overwhelmed, saying: ‘Now, something momentous I need to take the time to tell you about.

‘The winners of the Global Player Awards 2025 have been announced.

‘And I’m speaking as the only white man, I think, in the west of – in the south of England without my own podcast. But the News Agents wins best podcast show and is most listened to.

‘And the biggest new podcast is Christian Amanpour presents the X Files with James Rubin. For the full list and to listen to those award-winning shows, head please, of course, to Global Player.

He then continued, audibly finding it difficult to speak: ‘Well, if at this point you’re looking for something to cheer you up, can I suggest that you reflect that at least you’re not in prison in Alabama…’

As he spoke, his clarity continued to deteriorate as he attempted to catch his breath. Last night’s show has been removed from Global Player catch-up.

Metro understands that the TV and radio presenter was taken poorly this week, but his health remains okay, with plans to return as usual on Monday.

Fans have shared their support and well-wishes for the anchor on social media.

‘I hope Andrew Marr is ok,’ Garry Sitton wrote on X. DebateHazel added that he ‘didn’t sound well’, and Steffan echoed that he ‘hopes he is getting the support that he needs.’

After a lengthy career at the BBC, hosting flagship series The Andrew Marr Show and acting political editor during his tenure, he left the national broadcaster in 2021.

He launched his LBC show in 2022, with LBC securing millions of listeners every week across their programming.

Marr has been candid about his health in the past.

In 2013, he suffered a major stroke, with his wife Jackie Ashley taking an extended time off work to help support him in the aftermath which affted the ‘whole left side of his body’.

Recalling the experience to the BBC at the time, he said: ‘I went onto a rowing machine and gave it everything I had, and had a strange feeling afterwards – a blinding headache, and flashes of light – served out the family meal, went to bed, woke up the next morning lying on the floor unable to move.

‘Beware rowing machines, or at least beware being too enthusiastic on rowing machines, would be my message to the nation.’
