Angelina Jolie showed off a brand new accessory at the 2024 Tony Awards – a fresh tattoo in the centre of her chest.

The Girl Interrupted actress was joined by daughter Vivienne on the red carpet amid brewing unease within the family as the children distance from dad, Brad Pitt.

Looking utterly ethereal, the 49-year-old star sported a custom light-teal Atelier Versace velvet draped gown which revealed her new tattoo.

The sweetheart neckline was cut just low enough that a dainty sparrow-like bird in flight could be spotted in the middle of her chest.

Traditionally bird tattoos are associated with freedom, rebirth, and transformation, especially when in flight.

When she was last seen in April, again with daughter Vivienne, the tattoo was not visible so it appears to have been done recently.

Angelina has a fair few other tattoos, including a traditional Thai back piece which is written in a yantra-style script giving blessings for peace, love, and prosperity.

She also has Roman numerals on her arm, alongside a quote from Tennessee Williams which reads: ‘A prayer for the wild at heart, kept in cages.’

On her bikini line she has two more tattoos, including an ‘X’ in black ink, plus a tiger on her lower back.

Other tattoos include a Buddhist prayer warding away bad luck, coordinates fro her children’s birthplaces, and other smaller scripts such as her ‘know your rights’ neck tat.

Angelina and her daughter were nominated for co-producing the musical adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s 1967 book The Outsiders, which went on to win best musical.

Vivienne, 15, coordinated with her mum in blue suit trousers with a matching waistcoat and a white shirt, tied together with a little blue bowtie.

The Outsiders director Danya Taymor also won the Best Director award and the production was nominated 12 times.

Other winners included Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff for their Broadway production of Merrily We Roll Along.

During the evening, Angelina took to the stage to introduce the performance of two songs by The Outsiders cast; Tulsa ’67 and Grease Got A Hold.

In a defiant speech, she said: ‘[S. E.] Hinton wrote The Outsiders in high school, and half a century later, it still speaks to us. Society changes, but the experience of being an outsider is universal.

‘To any young person, any person, feeling on the outside, you are not wrong to see what is unfair. You are not wrong to wish to find your own path.

‘As the cast raise their voices, I hope it inspires many of you watching to value yours.’

Angelina’s words are particularly poignant at the moment as she and her ex-husband, 60, crawl to the end of their almost decade-long bitter divorce battle.

This comes after the news that daughter Shiloh has petitioned to drop her dad’s last name following her 18th birthday.

The Babylon actor and the Maleficent star share six children: Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 15.

A source told People he is ‘aware and upset’ of the change, adding: He’s never felt more joy than when she was born. He always wanted a daughter.’

Their three older children, including eldest daughter Zahara, were all adopted by the couple early on in their marriage.

Slowly, the kids have begun to drop Pitt and go by Jolie instead as their surname, although Shiloh is the first to do so legally.

Vivienne dropped her dad’s last name on the playbill The Outsiders, appearing just as Vivienne Jolie.

Meanwhile, Zahara joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority as Zahara Markey Jolie at Spelman College in November while introducing herself.
