Anne Hathaway is opening up about life behind the red carpet, sharing a rare look at motherhood, marriage and how she manages it all while juggling one of her busiest work years yet.
With major projects like âThe Devil Wears Prada 2,â âMother Mary,â and âVerityâ keeping her schedule packed, Hathaway told Vogue Australia that her biggest priority is still getting home to her two sons, Jonathan and Jack, as much as possible.
âI flew all night and was at the breakfast table with my kids,â she said, per Vogue Australia. âGiven the way my scheduleâs been, I just need to prioritise time with my kids. Get as much of it as I can.â
Hathaway and husband Adam Shulman married in 2012 and share sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6. Despite being one of Hollywoodâs biggest stars, she has kept her family life intentionally private and says protecting her childrenâs space is non-negotiable.
In a past interview with Porter, Hathaway explained, âItâs something I feel is not just essential for my health â Iâm on a team, itâs my family, and itâs not just about me.â
She added that children deserve room to create their own identities outside of fame, saying, âOne of the needs of children is that they need to be able to define their own lives.â
Why Anne Says âBalanceâ Doesnât Really Exist
Hathaway also recently admitted she no longer believes in the idea of perfect balance as a working mom.
Speaking with Harperâs Bazaar last month, she said she feels âvery defeatedâ by the concept of trying to perfectly split time between work and motherhood.
âKids interrupt you all the time,â she said, explaining that life before children had a much more uninterrupted focus.
Instead of chasing balance, Hathaway said she and her friends now focus on something more realistic: harmony.
âWe seek to harmonize our life,â she explained, calling it a much more forgiving way to approach motherhood.
She has also shared how becoming a mom changed her personally. In a 2022 interview with WSJ Magazine, Hathaway said, âI didnât feel fully landed and fully here until I was a mom.â
She explained that motherhood made her want âto be completely, on every level, true to my word,â adding that it helped her let go of habits and behaviors that no longer served her.
Even her career choices changed. Hathaway previously said she has become much more selective with projects because time away from her children has to feel truly worth it.
Her Husband Adam Shulman âHolds It Downâ
While Hathaway is balancing press tours and film releases, she says none of it would be possible without Shulman, whom she recently called her âdream partnerâ in Peopleâs 2026 âWorldâs Most Beautifulâ issue.
âHe supports me completely,â she said. âThe way he stepped up, I mean, in every possible way, heâs the most extraordinary person Iâve ever met.â
The couple first met in 2008 and have now been married for more than a decade. Hathaway said this past year especially showed her just how much she relies on him.
âHe holds it down,â she said. âI hope that doesnât sound like Iâm bragging, but heâs a dream partner to me.â
She even gave him a shoutout for being âa wonderful cook,â joking that one of the ways she values him most is through his kitchen skills, including a recent âbanginâ salmonâ dinner he made for the family.
Hathaway has also said she hopes her sons stay away from acting while theyâre still young.
âYou have all the time in the world to be a professional actor; you can only be a child once,â she said.
For Hathaway, motherhood may have changed everything, but it is clearly the role she values most.
As she put it, âI absolutely would not be able to have achieved what Iâve done without my husband.â
