Aubrey Plaza is getting ready to play Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss in the upcoming biopic “The Heidi Fleiss Story.” “I got it in my head that I wanted to play her a couple of years ago and I’ve never played a real-life person before,” Plaza told IndieWire.

Portraying a real person comes with its own demands, but it sounds like Plaza is more than up for it. “It’s a different kind of scale, challenge, that I’m really excited about, and I just think she’s an incredible person, incredible character,” the actor said.

The film’s script was co-written by “Bottoms” actor Rachel Sennott and will be produced by Pinky Promise Films, the production company behind critically acclaimed projects “Eleanor the Great” and “The Last Showgirl” starring Pamela Anderson.

Heidi Fleiss was infamous in the ’90s for running a high-end prostitution ring. She was known as the “Hollywood Madam” and she was arrested in 1993. After spending 20 months in prison for tax evasion, Fleiss, 59, became an animal advocate, freeing birds from captivity and rehabilitating them.

Plaza was fascinated by Fleiss’s story, and has vowed to do right by her. “I think she’s the ultimate badass icon and she deserves the royal treatment,” she revealed. “We shall give it to her.”

The actor also shared that she has yet to speak with Fleiss, but hopes a meeting will take place soon. “I hope to make a little trip to her place in the desert at some point,” Plaza said. “Spiritually I feel her. I’ve heard she’s very excited about it. We’re in early stages.”

Plaza Is Thriving After Dealing With Tragedy

Aside from the upcoming Fleiss biopic, Plaza is starring in the dark comedy “Honey Don’t!” alongside Margaret Qualley which will be released in theaters on August 22.

In February she appeared in a commercial for Ritz crackers that premiered during the Super Bowl, and she will always be loved for her roles in “Parks and Recreation” and “The White Lotus” season 2.

Plaza has a lot going on professionally, which is heartening after dealing with the death of her husband in January. Plaza’s husband Jeff Baena, a filmmaker, passed away at the age of 47 and it came as a shock to those who knew him.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” Plaza and family said in a statement. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”
