Bargain Hunt star John Cameron has shared an update on his recovery after suffering a heart attack.

The TV star was rushed to hospital last week, shortly before he was due to film for the popular BBC daytime show.

John fell ill last week just 10 minutes ahead of his scheduled start time for Bargain Hunt shooting.

He was blue-lighted to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth and underwent emergency surgery for the placement of a stent which is a wire mesh tube that acts like a scaffold to help keep your artery open.

Taking to social media, John expressed his gratitude towards the NHS for saving his life.

Thankfully, he is now resting up at home with his pet pooch for company.

The antiques guru took to Instagram with a sweet photo alongside his pup, reading: ‘Today I will be mostly playing with Polly the Puppy. #borderterrier #supportthenhs’.

His pals and followers were thrilled to see John back on his feet, who wore a smile as he cradled the adorable Poppy from the sofa.

In a nod to his health scare, John sported a t-shirt emblazoned with an ECG heartbeat line and the phrase, ‘The beat goes on’.

‘Just heard the news regarding your operation. I hope you are on the mend and raring to go again real soon’, commented wb1327.

‘I hope you are feeling much better, take care of yourself ❤️’, wrote joansimpson759.

It comes after John shared a picture from his hospital bed last week, surrounded by wires yet still managing to throw a thumbs up.

He penned in the caption: ‘On a day when junior doctors stage a one day strike over back pay, I would like to pledge my support and say a huge thank you to the St Mary’s hospital drop-in centre, the paramedics “Jess” and “Cat” who transported me to Queen Alexandra Hospital with sirens blaring, and the amazing emergency team in theatre who fitted me with a stent unblocking the artery that caused me to have a heart attack just 10 minutes before I was about to film a BBC Bargain Hunt auction at my firm Nesbits in Southsea.

‘Not sure how many of my 9 lives still remain but I definitely lost one yesterday.’

He added: ‘To quote the great ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius, “We have two lives, the second one begins when you realise you only have one.”

‘I will now be switching to a more friendly and renewable light source over the candle I have been burning at both ends!’

John’s caption concluded with a gag: ‘Sorry also to my wife, children, grandchildren, staff and friends for scaring the “Eartha Kitt” out of them.’

He was inundated with get-well messages, as Russell Grant commented: ‘Oh my dear John boy sending you my love and healing energy. Sending love, Rusty 💙’

He is known for a range of BBC shows, including Cash In The Attic (Picture: Instagram)

Amid his journey to recovery, John has quit smoking cigarettes and committed to drinking ‘much less alcohol’.

He’s also doing more exercise to keep fit and, as he joked, using the gym membership he’s ‘been paying for’ for years.

In the second phase of rehabilitation, he wants to take his scooter and motorcycle back on the road, he told his followers.

As well as his role on Bargain Hunt, John is a BBC personality known for a string of other shows.

He has also hosted Cash In The Attic and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.
