Former Miss Universe Jamaica contestant Tyra Spaulding has sadly passed away, nearly two months after opening up about her struggles with mental health.
According to The Gleaner, the 26-year-old beauty queen was found lifeless at her apartment on the evening of September 23. Authorities are investigating the incident as a suspected suicide.
Spaulding, who competed in Miss Universe Jamaica 2023, was allegedly found by relatives in her bedroom with a pink curtain tied around her neck, the outlet noted.
Tyra Spaulding Was Getting Therapy Before Tragic Passing
Previously, Spaulding publicly talked about her struggles with mental health on several videos she shared on YouTube. In an August 31 post, the beloved beauty queen admitted that her “mental health just plummeted.”
Spaulding also revealed that she had previously attempted to take her own life and was receiving therapy with the help of her former boss.
In another video shared on September 5, Spaulding said, “I am fighting for my life. Iâm definitely in a battle right now.”
Tributes Pour In for Beloved Beauty Queen
Following the announcement of Spauldingâs death, tributes quickly poured in across social media. The Miss Universe Jamaica organization paid homage with a touching message on Instagram.
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of the beautiful Tyra Spaulding,” the organization captioned a photo of Spaulding. “She was a radiant soul and an amazing human being. Her light, grace, beauty and kind spirit touched every life she encountered.”
They continued:
“Her light, grace, beauty, and kind spirit touched every life she encountered, leaving memories that will never fade.
She had a smile that lit up every room, bringing warmth and joy to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
We at the Miss Universe Jamaica Organization keep Tyraâs family, friends, and loved ones in our heartfelt prayers as we celebrate the beautiful life she shared with us.”
Other members of the Miss Universe Jamaica 2023 team also shared their condolences for Spauling.
Miss Universe Jamaica 2023 Jordanne Lauren Levy wrote on her Instagram Stories, “My heart is heavy as I learned of the passing of a fellow contestant from the Miss Universe Jamaica family. Iâm holding her loved ones in close prayer during this unimaginable time⦠Rest in peace Tyra.”
Another contestant, Tika Rutherford, also wrote, “Words cannot begin to describe the feeling that this news has brought us. Tyra you were so loved and I wish you knew thatâ¦.”
Spaulding was one of the 30 finalists who competed for the crown a couple of years ago.
