“Clerks” director Kevin Smith shared an emotional update after his mom, Grace Smith, suffered a medical emergency over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Kevin Smith’s Mom Suffers Medical Emergency
Smith opened up about his mother’s recent health scare in a touching social media post on Sunday, November 30.
“AMAZING GRACE DOES IT AGAIN! Flew to Florida Friday morning for an unplanned, emergency trip to see Mom, who was suddenly on deathâs doorstep,” Smith, 55, shared via Instagram. “And over the course of the past 2 days, she bounced back, returning from the brink! Talk about giving thanks!”
He continued, “@virginia_in_vienna, Don and I are slobbering grateful for our Mom and her uncanny ability to beat the odds yet again. Thank you to the fine folks at the hospital for giving her a fighting chance and thank you, Mom, for your unstoppable heart and indomitable spirit!”
Fans and friends shared their well-wishes to the beloved director in the comments section of his post.
“Amazing news!! Glad to hear that she is recovering. Having the family around is definitely her source of strength!” one follower wrote.
“Thatâs so amazing!!!! Beautiful Christmas miracle! Tons of love to all of you,” another added.
Kevin Smith’s Mom’s Health in 2024
This is not the first time Kevin has been vulnerable about sharing his mother’s health battles, however. In September 2024, she underwent a “life-saving surgery,” the comedian revealed at the time.
“Momâs been in and out of hospitals all year now, and as hard as itâs been to see it, itâs been far more difficult for Mom to live it,” he explained in an Instagram post at the time, alongside a selfie with his mom in her hospital bed. “Sheâll be 79 in December, so recovering from surgery takes almost as much as a toll as the malady theyâre mending. I love my Mom as much as the next guy but I also revere her for being the strongest person I know. If I was faced with what Mom goes through, Iâd likely call it a day.”
He continued, “But not Amazing Grace. She fights for life every time. Itâs pretty [expletive] inspiring. And while, admittedly, Mom would prefer I not swear to express this sentiment, sometimes you just gotta drop the [expletive] to underline how much you love your heroes.”
Kevin’s father, Donald Smith, passed away in June 2003.
“Heâs been gone twenty years, and I still miss him,” Kevin shared in June 2023.
