
Hollywood is in mourning as Oscar-nominated actress Samantha Eggar has sadly passed away. The beloved British actor has several credits, but she’s perhaps best known for “The Collector,” “Return from the Ashes,” and “Doctor Dolittle.”
Eggar’s daughter, Jenna Stern, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that she passed away on October 15. Her passing came after years of struggling with illness. Still, her daughter, who is also an actress, says Eggar “lived a long, fabulous life.”
Tributes Are Pouring In for Eggar
Eggar began her legendary acting career in 1962. As a result, many fans of her work are taking to social media to pay tribute to her legacy. One person on X wrote, “R.I.P. ððð»ð¢ Samantha Eggar Dead: ‘The Collector,’ ‘Doctor Dolittle’ Actress Was 86.”
Someone else said, “Just saw that actress Samantha Eggar has died.
What a time ð¥. One of my favorites of her films is THE WALKING STICK (1970). Wonderful film full of amazing talent. On YouTube for free. She was a terrific actress & great beauty. RIP.”
Another fan of her work in film stated, “RIP to Samantha Eggar, 86, a uniquely talented and beautiful star of many great movies, especially The Collector and, if you’re into horror, Curtains.”
Someone else wrote of Eggar’s legacy, “RIP Samantha Eggar. She was great in her Oscar-nominated turn alongside Terence Stamp in William Wylerâs âThe Collector.â âIf the tension wasnât there â if I didnât exude precisely what he wanted â well, Willie just poured cold water over me,â she said.”
Finally, another fan recalled a different film of Eggar’s, “The Lady in the Car.” They wrote, “The enjoyable 1970 French psychological thriller film The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun stars Samantha Eggar as a secretary in Paris who seems to be going crazy on the drive in her boss (Oliver Reed)âs car for a holiday to the south of France.”
She Will Be Missed, but Her Legacy Remains
Eggar’s most iconic roles were in 1965’s “The Collector,” 1967’s “Doctor Dolittle,” 1979’s “The Brood,” and 1997’s “Hercules.” However, according to IMDB, her first on-screen role was in the television show “Rob Roy.”
Some of her other notable roles were in “Starsky and Hutch,” “The Love Boat,” “Curtains,” and “All My Children.” Eggar’s last appearance was in the 2012 animated TV series “Metalocalypse”. Over the course of her career, she won one Golden Globe and was also nominated for an Oscar in 1966 for “The Collector.”
