Beloved ‘Dynasty’ Actress Passes Away at 98

“Dynasty” alum Betty Harford passed away in Santa Monica, California, at age 98, her friend Wendy Mitchell confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Betty’s son contacted me this morning, and Betty Harford Naszody passed away peacefully with family at her side, noon on November 2, 2025, she was 98,” Mitchell also shared via Facebook.


Betty Harford Had a Storied Career

Harford was perhaps best known for portraying Mrs. Gummerson, the Carrington family cook, throughout the 1980s, but she also starred in episodes of “Alfred Hitchcock Presents”, “Gunsmoke,” “Dr. Kildare”, “The Twilight Zone”, and “The Big Valley.”

The New York native got her start acting on radio shows in the 1950s, including in the docudrama series “Crime Classics.” She would later return to voice acting with roles such as Gumba, mother of Gumby and wife of Gumbo, in the cartoon series “The Gumby Show.”

Prior to landing her role in “Dynasty,” Harford appeared in 45 episodes of “The Paper Chase,” in which she played Mrs. Nottingham, John Houseman’s secretary.

During her early career days, Harford acted in Houseman’s UCLA Theatre Group in the 1960s, according to THR.

“As a member of the Westwood-based UCLA Theatre Group — launched in 1959 by Houseman, Eva Marie Saint, Paul Newman, Robert Ryan and others — Harford acted alongside the likes of Nina Foch, Inga Swenson and Pippa Scott,” the outlet revealed.

In addition to her small screen roles, Harford starred in multiple big screen roles including, Natalie Wood’s older sister in 1965’s “Inside Daisy Clover”. She also appeared in 1959’s “The Wild and the Innocent,” 1977’s “September 30, 1955,” and 1974’s “Win, Place or Steal.”

Harford is survived by her son, Chris, whom she shared with her late husband, sculptor Oliver Andrews. Andrews passed away while scuba diving off the coast of California in 1978, THR reported.

She later moved on with Hungarian actor Sándor Naszódy until his death in 1996.


Betty Harford’s Friend Previously Gave Fans an Update

In her later years, Harford retired to the Santa Barbara area of California.

Fans showed concern after not having heard any updates on the beloved actress, taking to social media to inquire.

“Betty is 98 and was living in Carpinteria and the last I heard from her was two months ago she had been recovering from the flu however I went by to see her and she did not answer,” Mitchell informed fans via Facebook, days before news of Harford’s death was shared. “She’s not answering her phone anymore so I’m afraid that she might’ve passed on.”
