Beloved Oscar-Nominated Cinematographer Passes Away at 88 — Tributes Pour In

Beloved Oscar-nominated cinematographer Adam Greenberg has died. He was 88. Greenberg worked on memorable films like “The Ambassador,” “The Terminator,” and the 1991 film, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was the latter film that earned Greenberg his Academy Award nomination, Deadline reports. 

Remembering Adam Greenberg

Greenberg leaves behind a legacy in the entertainment industry, and those who have worked with him remember him fondly for his talents. Among the tributes for the late star was one from cinematographer Avraham Karpick, who discussed Greenberg’s death in a post on Facebook on Friday, October 31. Karpick posted a black-and-white photo of Greenbery and shared his thoughts in the caption. 

“Adam did not speak to impress — he spoke to connect,” Karpick wrote. “He did not lead by direction — he led by example. He never commanded — he swam beside us, anchored in clarity, wisdom, and calm. Free of ego, far from vanity, he stayed above noise, gossip, and distraction. Now we are left with echoes — of his words, his spirit, his way. Because whales never truly vanish. They become part of something deeper.”

The heartfelt tribute included the dates of Greenberg’s birth and death. “April 11, 1936 – October 30, 2025,” Karpick ended his message.

The comment section of Karpick’s post has been flooded with comments from fans who have praised Greenberg, but also celebrated Karpick’s touching message. “Sad and moving the things you wrote, may his memory be a blessing,” a translated comment from Hebrew to English reads. “Blessed is the true judge! What you wrote is moving,” another message reads. 

Other translated reactions include, “Very beautiful and moving, what you wrote,” “So sad. Beyond being a wonderful photographer, He was an extraordinary man. Quiet and broad hearted. It’s always right to share his vast knowledge. May his memory be good forever,” and “Take my condolences. Talented man. Truly one of a kind.”

Greenberg was born in Kraków, Poland, and raised in Tel Aviv, Israel, Deadline reports. It is the latter country where he began his career as a film lab technician and documentary cameraman.

Director James Cameron, who worked with Greenberg on “The Terminator” and “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” also paid tribute to him in a statement. “I learned so much from Adam, not just about cinematography, but about the spirit of independent production,” he told Deadline. “He refused to let budget limitations inhibit his artistic expression. Adam had done scores of films when I worked with him on my first, and his scrappy, can-do spirit has been a guiding light for me ever since, even on the biggest of productions.”
