Brie Bird dies at age 9

Brielle “Brie” Bird, the beloved young social media star who shared her journey through stage 4 neuroblastoma with the world, has died. She was 9. Brie’s family announced her death on Instagram, sharing that she passed away on Thursday, December 11, after living with a recurring form of cancer for five years.

Brie’s journey was followed by hundreds of thousands of people through the family’s account, @briestrongerthancancer.

Brie Bird’s Family Shares an Emotional Farewell

Brie’s family confirmed the news with a moving tribute shared on Friday, December 11.

“You are the miracle! Your purpose on earth was fulfilled, and it was the most sacred privilege to escort you home,” they wrote. “You brought people to Christ, you showed the world that God is good, and your light shined to all corners of the earth. We love you for eternity!”

They also shared that Brie’s story will continue to be told.

“We will never stop,” the family wrote. “Please come visit us often. Your bedroom door is always open, and we’ll leave the playroom light on.”

Another portion of the message read, “You did it, Brielle, you did everything with grace! I can only imagine the incredible reunion, and I’m so jealous, but I know you ran straight to Jesus. 😭 Thank you for being an inspiration to so many.”

Her Stage 4 Neuroblastoma Diagnosis & Recurrence

Brie was first diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma in 2020. At the time, her mother, Kendra, told followers that doctors had discovered an 8-centimeter tumor in Brie’s abdomen, along with cancer that had spread to her back.

About two years later, the family celebrated when Brie was declared cancer-free. That milestone was short-lived. In January 2024, the cancer returned.

“I hope you never have to tell your child that the cancer is back,” Kendra wrote while sharing the devastating update.

Brie Entered Hospice Care After Making a Brave Decision

Brie entered hospice care in early July 2025, as Kendra shared with friends and followers. In a deeply personal post, she recalled a moment that showed the gravity of her daughter’s condition.

Kendra said Brie asked, “Is it okay if I say no this time? I just want to be home, I don’t feel good when I am there, but I’m scared not to go too.”

Kendra agreed to honor her daughter’s wishes and told her she did not have to return to the hospital.

“I called the hospital and told them we decided not to come this week,” Kendra wrote. “We want to respect her decision, give her the chance to speak up for herself, and with no promise that it’ll work anyway, I can’t force her to be miserable.”

Ariana Grande Brings Joy to Brie’s Final Weeks

Despite the heartbreak of hospice care, Brie’s loved ones focused on filling her final days with joy. On August 7, she received a surprise package from one of her favorite celebrities, Ariana Grande.

Brie later shared a video unboxing the gifts, many inspired by “Wicked” and Grande’s character Glinda. The package included plush Squishmallows, nail polish, perfume, and other thoughtful items.

“Thank you so, so, so, so much, Ariana Grande. I love everything in the package that you got, especially the Squishmallows and everything else,” Brie said in the video.

The clip ended with a personal message from Grande, who said she learned about Brie’s love of “Wicked” through her mom.

“I’ve seen your videos, and I think you are the most amazing, most inspiring little light beam in this universe. You’re just so incredible, so thank you for being you,” Grande said. “I’m sending you so much love and many, many, many virtual hugs. I hope this makes you smile, and I’ll speak to you soon. Love you.”

For the family and the community that followed her journey, Brie’s light and courage remain unforgettable.
