Looking for an escape from boring TV shows? Well, we’ve got some good news for you.

A reboot of the widely beloved drama Prison Break has been given the go-ahead by streaming service Hulu.

The show first aired over 20 years ago in August 2005, running until 2009 for four seasons before a revived fifth season in 2017.

This edge-of-your-seat thriller revolved around brothers Lincoln Burrows, played by Dominic Purcell and Michael Scofield, played by Wentworth Miller.

With Burrows sentenced to death for a crime he didn’t commit, Scofield comes up with a plan to break him out.

According to Variety, this reboot will be set in the same world as the original Fox drama, but will feature a new cast and storylines.

The original series was a critical hit, receiving two Golden Globe nominations. One for Best Television Series, and another for lead, Miller, who was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama.

Sadly, while Miller is synonymous with the franchise, he has ruled himself out of any future involvement with the show.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, he said: ‘I’m out. Of [Prison Break]. Officially,’ he wrote. ‘Not [because] of static on social media (although that has centered the issue). I just don’t want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told).’

Although Megh Bale called it ‘one of the best series on [their] all-time watch list, they complained the ‘ending was actually quite mundane and anticlimactic’.

The new series will follow Cassidy, played by Emily Browning, who takes a job at one of the most dangerous prisons in the US.

The ex-soldier turned corrections officer does it in an attempt to ‘prove just how far she’ll go for someone she loves’, according to the official logline.

The cast might be different, but some of the original team are working onthe reboot.

Who will be in the reboot of Prison Break?

The new cast will include:

  • Drake Rodger as Tommy
  • Lukas Gage as Jackson

Dawn Olmstead will return as executive producer, alongside Marty Adelstein, Neal Moritz and Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring.

The reboot is the brainchild of Elgin James, who recently worked with Stephen Merchant on the comedy series The Outlaws, and will serve as showrunner, writer and executive producer on the reboot.

All episodes of the original show are available on Disney Plus.
