Popular Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed in his home in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The actor, 54, was rushed into surgery following the attack and is now in a stable condition, his team has said.
The incident occurred in an upscale area of Mumbai city, where Khan lives with his family. He’s married to Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan and the couple have two children
City police told BBC Marathi that the attack was carried out by an unidneitfied man who entered his home sometime in the early hours.
Niraj Uttamani, the hospital’s chief operating officer, told BBC Marathi that Khan’s stab wounds numbered six in total, and two of them were deep.
A ‘scuffle’ broke out, leading to Khan sustaining knife wounds.

Police have now formed teams to investigate the matter.
‘Khan has come out of surgery and is out of danger. He is currently in recovery and the doctors are monitoring his progress,’ Khan’s team said in a statement.
Khan was taken to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital where he underwent surgery.
Khan’s team did not go into any details about the incident, but did say it was an ‘attempted burglary.’
‘We request the media and fans to be patient. It is a police matter,’ they said.
Khan has been a beloved actor in Bollywood since his debut in 1993. He primarily works in Hindi cinema and often plays comedic roles, his quick wit making him one of the most recognisable faces in the industry.
His hits include movies such as Dil Chahta Hai and Kal Ho Naa Ho and recent action dramas such as Tanhaji and Devara: Part 1.
His role as an antagonist in Omkara, a 2006 critically acclaimed adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello, was met with rave reviews globally.
