Brandi Glanville’s DIY Nair Hack for Facial Parasite ‘Can Cause Chemical Burns,’ Doctor Warns

Don’t try this at home. Brandi Glanville’s attempt to treat her suspected facial parasite with hair removal cream Nair is a big no-no, a doctor tells Showbiz Cheat Sheet.

Brandi Glanville touts Nair as skin treatment in recent TikTok

Over the weekend, the reality TV star alarmed many of her social media followers when she posted a <a href=”https://www.tiktok.com/@brandiglanvilleofficial/video/7534141738827468063?lang=en” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>TikTok discussing her latest attempt to treat a skin condition that has been bothering her for the past two years.

“Good news. You guys don’t have to spend a lot of money on pills and lasers anymore,” she said. “Because I decided to put Nair on my face. Because when I have an exfoliated face, it pisses [the parasite] off.” (Glanville refers to her parasite as Caroline, having named the bug after her Real Housewives nemesis Caroline Manzo.)

In the video, the lower half of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum’s face is red, inflamed, and the skin appears to be peeling. Brandi admitted that she “overdid” her DIY skin treatment. However, she insisted the end results would be worth it.

“Nair is the fountain of youth,” she added. “I figured it out.”

But <a href=”https://www.rajamohanmd.com/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Dr. Raja Mohan, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Dallas, says that Brandi’s unusual skin care regimen would not do anything to treat a parasite. Plus, the hack itself comes with serious risks.

“Applying Nair to the face in an attempt to treat a facial parasite is not only ineffective but potentially harmful,” he explained in an email.

Doctor warns against using Nair to treat suspected infection

Nair is designed to “break down the keratin in hair” and “is not an antiparasitic agent,” Mohan said. “There is no medical or scientific basis to suggest that it would have any effect on parasites of any kind, including those that might affect the skin.”

Using Nair other than as directed could “lead to significant irritation, chemical burns, inflammation, and even compromise the skin’s barrier,” he warned. Other risks include long-term pigmentation issues or scarring. The possible end result? A person could end up dealing with “complications that are much harder to treat than the original concern.”

“If a patient told me they had applied or were thinking of applying Nair to their face to target a parasite, I would emphatically tell them not to do it and explain the dangers,” he said.

When facing a serious skin concern, the best approach is to see a doctor to get to the bottom of the issue, he added. Even if a person has symptoms that they believe could be caused by a parasite, chances are, there is something else going on.

“Most of the time it’s not actually a parasitic condition,” Mohan said. “It could be something like rosacea, folliculitis, or another dermatologic issue that mimics those symptoms. I’d strongly recommend they stop using over-the-counter chemical products for self-treatment and see a dermatologist, or if it persists, an infectious diseases specialist, for proper evaluation. Skin health isn’t something to experiment with, especially on the face.”

‘RHOBH’ alum said she’d seen ‘ever doctor under the sun’ in quest to cure her skin condition

Over the past year, Brandi has been candidly sharing her skin struggles. In an interview with <a href=”https://www.etonline.com/media/videos/brandi-glanville-explains-her-face-parasite-and-shares-fiery-message-to-her-haters” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>ET in December 2024, Brandi said she’d seen “every doctor under the sun” in an effort to get to the bottom of her health problem, which she believes stems from something she ate while filming Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip in Morocco.

Whatever the source of the problem, she said it was drastically affecting her life, leading to swelling and difficulty speaking and making her reluctant to leave the house. More recently, she’s been seeing a physician who specializes infectious diseases and immunology, she said in a July 29 post on X, adding that she was “finally getting answers” and couldn’t “wait to live again.”
