On August 7, Brandon Blackstockâs family announced his death. He was 48.
Blackstockâs family shared the sad news in a statement. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years,â the statement reads, People reports. âHe passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family.”
Most people knew Blackstock from his relationship with âAmerican Idolâ alum Kelly Clarkson, who, one day earlier made a statement on Instagram that she would be stepping away from her Las Vegas residency to focus on her two children, daughter River Rose and son, Remington Alexander. She briefly mentioned Blackstockâs health, saying he was âIll.â

The family Blackstock leaves behind is not just his two children with Clarkson. Before dating the âBecause Of Youâ singer, he was married to Melissa Ashworth from 2001 until 2012. The former couple is parents to two adult children. Their daughter, Savannah, was born in June 2002, and their son, Seth, was born in November 2006.
Fans got to know them over the years when they occasionally attended red carpet events with Blackstock and Clarkson. Still, they mostly live private lives.
Savannahâs Facebook is visible to the public, but she does not have a large following. On June 19, she made a sweet post on Facebook of her father hugging a dog. In the caption, she wrote, âThe cowiest cowboys you ever did see.â She ended the message with a red heart emoji and one of a cow.
The comments on the post include one from Blackstockâs mother, who goes by Elisa Gilbert now. She wrote, âMy handsome son and Turk!!â Blackstock’s father was producer and manager, Narvel Blackstock.
The photo is not new, though, and appears to have been reposted from a post that Savannah made in 2022 when she honored her father and her husband on Fatherâs Day.

Savannah is also a mother, and a glance at her Facebook gives a glimpse into her life and the bond she shares with her family. This also means Blackstock was a grandparent.
The family appeared to be very close, with Blackstock and Ashworth remaining on good terms despite their split. âWe have a wonderful relationship,â Ashworth told RadarOnline on June 16, 2014, after Blackstock married Clarkson. âI love Kelly and we get along great, and my husband and I hang out with them all the time.â
When Blackstock and Clarkson had their first child, River Rose, Ashworth had lovely things to say. âSheâs just absolutely precious. And Kelly is doing great,â she told RadarOnline at the time.
