Sheinelle Jones is making her way back to the “Today” show after a months-long absence, during which she was grieving the loss of her husband, Uche Ojeh.

On the September 2 broadcast, Savannah Guthrie shared that Jones, 47, will return to the NBC morning show on Friday, September 5, marking her first appearance since stepping away late last year.

“We’ve got some other great news that we are so excited to share with you, and it involves a member of our own Today family,” Craig Melvin said before Guthrie added, “Yes, our beloved Sheinelle will be returning to the show. She and her family have been through so much after the devastating loss of her husband, Uche.”

Savannah Guthrie Teases Emotional Interview

Guthrie revealed that Jones will mark her return with a heartfelt pre-taped interview between the two co-hosts.

“We recently sat down together. We shared a really personal conversation, talking about how she has carried on and found the strength these past few months,” Guthrie explained.

“She calls this experience a ‘beautiful nightmare.’ And she has thoughts on grief that are so touching. She’s got a special message of hope, too, for anyone facing their own struggles.”

Support From the Today Family

Jones has been away from the show since December 2024, taking time to focus on her family after Ojeh’s glioblastoma diagnosis. In January, she shared with fans on Instagram that she was dealing with “a family health matter” and thanked her Today colleagues and viewers for their support.

Her co-hosts have stood by her throughout. “We all know Sheinelle, she’s always smiling. She’s just the bright light when she walks into the room,” Dylan Dreyer said. “Even through this, she relied on her faith, she relied on her friends.”

Remembering Uche Ojeh

Jones and Ojeh, who were married for 18 years, shared three children: Kayin, 15, and twins Clara and Uche, 12. He passed away in May at the age of 45.

Guthrie announced the news live on Today at the time, calling Jones “so strong through all of this, as was Uche.”

Many of Jones’ Today colleagues, including Dreyer and Al Roker, attended Ojeh’s funeral in late May.

Dreyer told Entertainment Tonight shortly before the service, “We chat with her often. A week doesn’t go by where we’re not checking in, seeing how she’s doing. We pray for her all the time, we can’t wait for her to come back.”

Now, with her long-awaited return, Jones will not only reunite with her colleagues but also share her story of resilience and hope with viewers across the country.
