The heartwarming proposal took place during the 56th annual Dia del Sol 2025 benefit event titled “Ethereal Elegance, A Shimmering Celebration” at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort in Carlsbad.

“I’m thrilled to have found my person, my partner in life who makes me want to be better, no matter what we’re doing,” Mitte told People. “Kennedy is my everything and I can’t wait to officially start our life together and see what adventures life takes us on next.”

A Romantic Proposal

Mitte, who has cerebral palsy, is an official ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) and frequently appears at fundraisers supporting the cause. The gala where he proposed benefited the UCP of San Diego. Suarez, who has been deeply involved in Mitte’s advocacy work despite not having a disability, was by his side for the special evening.

The following day, the newly engaged couple attended the Disability Rights Legal Center’s 50th Anniversary FDR Gala in Los Angeles, continuing their shared mission of raising awareness and supporting inclusion.

From Friendship to Love

Before romance bloomed, Mitte and Suarez had been friends for more than a decade. See more photos of the lovely couple together!

Their relationship took a turn toward love five years ago during a trip together when they realized their connection had grown deeper.

Now, the couple is happily building their life in Brownsville, Texas. Though they haven’t started wedding planning just yet, they are focused on enjoying their engagement and continuing their work in advocacy and film.

Mitte is the president of his family’s Austin-based nonprofit, The Mitte Foundation, which funds community revitalization efforts and cultural initiatives across South Texas, including the Mitte Cultural District in Brownsville. Suarez, who works remotely as an HR generalist, often accompanies him on film sets and charity events, offering constant support both personally and professionally.

Since his breakout role on Breaking Bad alongside Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn, and Dean Norris, Mitte has built a versatile acting career. His recent film Westhampton premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival, and he has more projects on the way, including Love Me Dead with Dove Cameron and Talking to Strangers.

“I’m so lucky to have a partner who believes in everything I do,” Mitte told People. “Together, we’re building something beautiful.”
