The news of Chenneour fighting off a thief, who picked up her cellphone from the table, was reported on June 10, but the incident took place in February. The thief has been identified as 18-year-old Zacariah Boulares, who “has pleaded guilty to the charge for stealing the phone, and admitted common assault against another customer, Carlo Kurcishi,” The Times reports.

Chenneour commented on the incident in an interview with Daily Mail, telling the publication that they “didn’t expect” her to retaliate. “I was left with a concussion just before the Screen Actors Guild Awards and since then, I’ve felt constantly on edge,” she told Daily Mail. “Even my dog was traumatized — now, if anyone touches me, he panics and tries to protect me. Getting a coffee shouldn’t be something you need your wits about you for.”

The Daily Mail also shared the footage from the incident on TikTok on June 11. Fans have reacted to the post. “Well done to Genevieve for standing up for her property!” a comment reads. “Recovered her stolen phone and used it to bludgeon the thief. Epic,” another shared.

Other reactions include, “bye that’s so iconic,” “I bet Lady Whistledown got alot to say on the papers,” and “Literally going to start watching Bridgerton and going to fan girl Miss Clara Livingston!”

Crazy, watching the beginning of this footage, it gives me chills.”

Also on her Instagram Story, Chenneour revealed that while one man was prosecuted, the other was let go due to a lack of evidence. “The man that threatened to stab me will not be going to court and has been released due to lack of evidence,” she wrote. “I know karma will get him.”
