BTS Reunion Just Took a Major Step Forward

Jungkook and Jimin of K-pop supergroup BTS salute at an outdoor sporting facility in Yeoncheon on June 11, 2025

The long-awaited BTS reunion just moved one step closer to reality. On June 11, two of the group’s youngest members—Jimin and Jungkook—were officially discharged from their mandatory military service in South Korea. The news follows the recent return of fellow bandmates RM and V, and leaves just one member, Suga, still completing his alternative service.

The milestone marks a near-complete return for the global supergroup, whose members began their service in late 2023. With Suga expected to be discharged later this month, all eyes are now on what’s next for BTS.

Jimin and Jungkook Salute Fans as They Step Back Into the Spotlight

According to Billboard Korea, Jimin (Park Ji-min), 29, and Jungkook (Jeon Jung-kook), 27, were met by fans and reporters near Yeoncheon Public Stadium in Gyeonggi Province. The pair, dressed in uniform, addressed the crowd with heartfelt messages of gratitude and hope for what’s ahead.

“Thank you to the fans and reporters who came to see us,” Jimin said. “It’s been a long time, from the pandemic to military service. Now that we’re back, we’ll work hard to show you what we’ve prepared.”
Jungkook echoed the emotion of the moment. “Actually, it’s been so long since I’ve been in front of cameras, and I didn’t even put on makeup, so I’m a bit embarrassed,” he admitted. “Thanks to everyone who served with us and supported us along the way.”

Jimin also teased what may come next for the group. “Now that I’m discharged, I think it’s time we continue drawing the picture we had in mind. We’ll prepare well and share it with you soon.”

Their military service began in December 2023, with Jimin serving in the military band under the 5th Infantry Division and Jungkook completing his duty with the Baekma Division.

The Countdown to a Full BTS Reunion Begins

With six of the seven members now discharged—Jin (June 2024), J-Hope (October 2024), RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook—only Suga remains in active duty. He is fulfilling his service as a social worker, an alternative to standard enlistment, and is expected to be discharged by the end of June.

During his own discharge one day earlier, RM (Kim Namjoon), 30, told fans he was “ready to hit the ground running again.” V (Kim Taehyung), 29, reflected on how military life helped him reset “physically and mentally,” and added, “I really want to run to ARMY as soon as I can. Thank you for waiting for us.”

Formed in 2013, BTS—short for Bangtan Sonyeondan, or “Bulletproof Boys”—has become a global music powerhouse. The Grammy-nominated group has landed six No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including “Butter” and “Dynamite,” and has inspired millions of fans across the world.

With just one member left to return, fans are now counting down to what promises to be one of the most highly anticipated reunions in pop culture history.
