‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Star Wants the Chance to Fix Awkward Character Ending in Reboot

Cordelia Chase didn’t just deserve better, she deserved so much more. The quick-witted queen bee of Sunnydale High went from one-liners and lip gloss to literal visions from The Powers That Be. And then? She was written off of “Angel” in a coma, brought back for one single episode, and then killed offscreen. No fanfare. No proper goodbye. Just… gone.

Now, actress Charisma Carpenter is hoping the planned “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot gives her a second chance to do right by the character she helped build; and she’s not shy about how much it would mean.

“Because the way it went down for her was just — without using inflammatory language — just was not… she was built up so big, she’d grown so much, she’d had this remarkable journey, and for her to go out the way that she did just felt so unjust,” Carpenter told IGN. And she’s absolutely right.

The Cordelia Effect: A Fan Favorite Done Dirty

Cordy’s arc was one of the strongest across the entire Buffyverse. She went from mean girl to full-on warrior, tackling heartbreak, demon pregnancies (yes, that storyline), and higher powers. But despite nearly a decade of character growth, her ending felt like a drive-by. Fans were devastated, and Carpenter clearly still feels that sting.

“I’m 1,000% who I am today because of that character,” she shared with IGN. “Cordelia has informed who I am in a very big way. She brought out, in me, a side I didn’t know existed, but that’s what happens when you play a character for nearly 10 years.”

That kind of connection doesn’t just fade. And with the reboot being spearheaded by some serious creative talent like Chloé Zhao (”The Marvels”) and Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (“Poker Face”), Carpenter’s got hope that the new version could give Cordy the sendoff she actually deserves. And let’s not forget Buffy herself (i.e. fellow actress Sarah Michelle Gellar) is on-board and leading the revival charge.

Plus, with projects like “Slayers: A Buffyverse Story” already expanding the canon, it’s clear there’s still room (and demand) for fresh takes on familiar faces, like Cordelia.

“I Am So Hopeful to Be Included”

“I am so excited for fans, and I know it will be fantastic because of who’s involved,” she also told IGN. “To see this actually happen for the fans makes me thrilled. I am so hopeful to be included, for Cordelia to be a part of this new iteration.”

Whether it’s a flashback, alternate timeline, or full-on resurrection (Buffy’s done it before, let’s not pretend), we’re crossing our fingers Cordelia gets another shot. Because if there’s one thing the Hellmouth taught us, it’s that no one’s ever really gone.
