Calvin Harris and Vick Hope have shared the happy news of the birth of their first child.

The couple posted a series of photos with their baby boy, named Micah, on Instagram, including some graphic images from the home water birth itself, such as Vick’s placenta.

’20th of July our boy arrived. Micah is here! My wife is a superhero and I am in complete awe of her primal wisdom! Just so grateful. We love you so much Micah,’ Calvin wrote in the caption to his post.

The name Micah has Hebrew origins and translates to ‘who is like God?’.

The other images include one of Calvin cradling the baby in the sun, lifting his son out of the water and the creation of Vick’s (presumably) placenta pills.

Vick reposted the first image on her story with the phrase ‘my boys’ with the sun emoji.

The BBC Radio 1 presenter, Vick, 35, has been married to her DJ husband, 41, since September 2023, and announced her pregnancy in May.

Friends and family are flocking to the comments to congratulate the new parents.

‘Congratulations you 2,’ chelceegrimes wrote on Instagram.

‘Congratulations guys, hope mama and baby are doing amazing,’ thedeanlife echoed.

What is Placentophagy?

Placentophagy is the postpartum ingestion of the placenta and can be eaten in a variety of manners, including raw, cooked, roasted, dehydrated or encapsulated (the latter of which it appears Vick has opted to do).

Women who choose to consume their placenta after birth believe it provides health benefits which could include a boost of energy through nutrients.

There are several celebrities who have decided to try out this practice, such as Kourtney Kardashian, who once posted she would be ‘sad’ when her pills ran out.

Hillary Duff has previously consumed a placenta smoothie and Coleen Rooney claimed her placenta pills have helped her beat post-natal depression and replenish her natural hormones.

Despite the increasing popularity, some research has debunked the theory that it offers health benefits.

In 2015, the BBC reported that a review by Northwestern University found no proven benefits and no research on the potential risks with the lead study author saying: ‘Women really don’t know what they are ingesting.’

‘Massive congrats mate ! Big love,’ Camrinwatsin said.

‘Soooo happy for you,’ annabelahor agreed.

Vick decided to share that she was expecting on her drivetime show,  Going Home with Vick, Katie and Jamie earlier this year.

‘I should say that this is my final week. I wanted to share that with you because we’ve had such a lovely time over the last few weeks. That time is coming to an end for a bit because I’m going on maternity leave next week,’ she said at the time.

Co-host Jamie replied: ‘You’re an amazing friend, an amazing person, and you’re just going to be an amazing mum.’

The loved-up couple started dating in 2022 and, after an Ibiza engagement, they got at Hulne Priory in Alnwick, Northumberland with a Glastonbury-inspired wedding.

Plenty of famous faces were in attendance, including Big Brother host AJ Odudu and radio presenters Vernon Kay and Scott Mills.
