Carol Kirkwood immediately explained what happened after a man alarmingly pulled her in for a kiss on BBC Breakfast.

The Strictly Come Dancing star, 62, was presenting a Christmas segment from Covent Garden when a man wearing reindeer antlers appeared from off-camera and planted a kiss on her cheek.

However, moments after Carol was caught unawares by the unexpected kiss she reassured viewers the man in question was her ‘good friend’ and colleague Tim.

On Christmas Eve, Carol was discussing festivities as fake snow rained around her in central London as she spoke to Sally Nugent and Roger Johnson from the studio.

Carol, who was wearing mistletoe, then complained the plant, which is associated with kissing over Christmas, ‘hasn’t done any tricks this morning’ before Tim ran in for a surprise kiss and hug.

Carol looked momentarily shocked by the impromptu embrace and let out a shriek before gasping: ‘Oh, I say…Tim.’

As she giggled, Carol reassured viewers: ‘That’s Tim our science engineer. We’re good friends. I wasn’t expecting that.’

Around this time last year, Carol married partner Steve Randall, 48, in a gorgeous Christmas wedding.

They tied the knot on Wednesday, December 27 after ex-police officer Steve, popped the question while on holiday.

Carol announced the news on BBC Breakfast, she said it was ‘the most perfect and romantic and intimate’ wedding.

‘We are both so incredibly happy,’ she added.

Earlier this year, Carol addressed mean-spirited comments about their12 year age gap – which she said wouldn’t happen if their genders were reversed.

‘If our ages were the other way around, nobody would ever mention it,’ she told the Express.

‘I’ve had a few comments but I don’t care.

‘We’ve moved on from the days when he might have been described as my toyboy or people might call me a cougar.’

Carol and Steve have been together since 2021.

This is Carol’s second marriage as she was previously married to Jimmy Kirkwood for 18 years, before splitting in 2008.

BBC Breakfast airs from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer.
