Carol Vorderman was in her element during last night’s general election coverage, and has been branded a ‘queen’ for her commentary.

The former Countdown star, 63, has long criticised the now former Conservative government and she was delighted when Sir Keir Starmer was named the first Labour prime minister in 14 years in the early hours of this morning.

The TV star celebrated the looming Labour landslide victory last night as she said goodbye to years of ‘corruption, lies and gaslighting’ from the Conservative Party.

Vorderman began celebrating after the exit poll predicted a 170-seat majority for Labour across the UK, before Rishi Sunak admitted defeat and it was confirmed Sir Keir will be the UK’s next prime minister.

‘Let’s get the party started, because they have gone,’ Vorderman said of the Conservative Party, as she appeared as a guest during the Channel 4 live election coverage.

’14 years of corruption, lies and gaslighting, you’ve got two ex-disgraced Tory chancellors in the studio.

She was also called ‘brilliantly savage’ (Picture: Channel 4)

‘You’ve got Nadine Dorries, a woman who barely turned up last year as an MP.

‘And everybody out there is thinking no more of this – no more of the lies, of the deceit, of the corruption, of the VIP PPE lane scandal, the betting scandal.

‘Who could ever have thought that a government would be as utterly, utterly banal and ridiculous as this one.’

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Vorderman added: ‘Here’s to a new chapter.’

‘Johnny Mercer gone. Jacob Rees Mogg gone. Gillian Keegan gone. Tories we don’t have to endure anymore.’

Many late-night election viewers took to social media to congratulate Vorderman on her commentary, as Rene Power said: ‘Brilliantly savage.’

‘We’re all cheering Queen V here at the GE party!’ wrote @supertanskiii, while @mcdreeamie said: ‘Carol Vorderman has chosen violence.’

‘Carol Vorderman is absolutely OWNING it on C4 News! 💅’ said @miffythegamer, as @LouisHenwood added: ‘Carol Vorderman is being extremely powerful on Channel 4. The most energetic speaker thus far.’

‘Carol on fire,’ commented @dave43law, as @JOJEHARVEY said: ‘Carol Vorderman telling it how it is on C4.’

Another moment saw Carol explain what motivated her to begin publicly talking about politics online.

‘I tell you what motivated me was the lies in Partygate and the VIP PPE lane. In a way the media not pushing it forward as they should was a disgrace,’ she said.

‘I could not believe when there were people today taking pictures outside the polling stations saying, “This is for you dad. I couldn’t see my father when they were partying. This is for you nan, because we had to say goodbye on Facetime.”

‘People have not forgotten and it doesn’t matter how many times politicians say, “It was just a bit of cake,” and endlessly sitting in studios saying this stuff, because people are living it out there and that’s why they are going down and out tonight and I am here for it.’

Dr Rachel Clarke shared the clip of her explanation on social media and commented: ‘YOU ARE BLOODY MAGNIFICENT. EVERY SINGLE WORD OF THIS.’

X user Nessa added: ‘Absolutely, what a breath of fresh air she is,she says it exactly as it is with no apologies. What a legend.’

Vorderman previously announced she is set to publish a ‘part diary, part political manifesto’ exposing the ‘incompetence and lies’ in the party.

Meanwhile, Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway shared a video of herself calling down to the Labour leader to congratulate him after he was re-elected as MP for Holborn and St Pancras.

‘Me “Congratulations Prime Minister!”

‘@gmb is the first at 2.40am to welcome Sir Keir into his new role. Check out his smile and wave, and the cheer.’
