Celebrate the 4th of July Like Ree Drummond With These Classic Cookout Recipes

Ree Drummond attends The Pioneer Woman Magazine Celebration with Ree Drummond at The Mason Jar on June 6, 2017 in New York City

When it comes to holiday cooking, Ree Drummond knows how to make it memorable. The “Pioneer Woman” host and cookbook author has turned her family’s Fourth of July celebration in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, into an epic annual event—complete with fireworks, music, and of course, a table full of crowd-pleasing food. Whether you’re after bold burgers, smoky sides, or standout summer desserts, these dishes will have guests asking for seconds (and the recipe).

‘The Pioneer Woman’ Grill Favorites: Burgers and Chili Dogs, Done Right

Ree Drummond admits she’s a little high-maintenance when it comes to Burgers—and for good reason. Her ideal version starts with 80/20 ground beef, seasoned before it’s formed into patties. A simple cheese slice won’t cut it; she recommends layering on multiple toppings and using a crusty, chewy bun that holds everything together. “I don’t crave burgers unless I know it’s going to be a really, really good burger,” Drummond says—and hers never disappoints.

For a fun twist, Drummond’s Chili Dogs are a favorite of her husband, Ladd Drummond. “He can scarf down a plate faster than you can say chili dogs,” she jokes. The chili is smooth and bean-free, designed to cling to the hot dog instead of sliding off. Top with cheddar, red onion, mustard, or even jalapeños—and if it gets messy, grab a fork. “There are no rules to hot dog recipes,” she adds.

Ree Drummond’s Baked Beans and Pasta Salad That Steal the Spotlight

Drummond’s Baked Beans aren’t just a side dish—they’re a main event. Inspired by her friend Pam Anderson’s recipe, this version starts with pork and beans and adds tangy barbecue sauce, brown sugar, mustard, green pepper, onion, and bacon. “They’re sweet, smoky, saucy, and unforgettable,” Drummond writes. After layering partially cooked bacon on top, the dish is baked low and slow until thickened and crispy.

Her Spicy Pasta Salad brings heat and bold flavor to the table. The star ingredient? Smoked Gouda. Tossed with loads of fresh basil, this salad gets better as it sits, making it a perfect make-ahead dish for summer gatherings. “It’s one powerful pasta salad,” Drummond says.

Cobblers and Cakes with a Patriotic Twist

Drummond’s Peach Cobbler is a dessert staple for summer entertaining. Unlike her blackberry cobbler with its cake-like topping, this peach version uses a sweet biscuit-style topping that pairs beautifully with fresh (or frozen) fruit. “We love it with a big ol’ scoop of ice cream or some freshly whipped cream,” she says.

Try her American Flag Cake, a red velvet sheet cake decorated with sprinkles to mimic the stars and stripes. “It might look complicated, but I promise it’s easier than it seems,” Drummond notes. All it takes is a ruler, a pencil, and a little patience. The result is a striking centerpiece that’s as tasty as it is patriotic. She also has a version making the flag out of strawberries and blueberries—yum!

Fans can catch Ree Drummond on new episodes of “The Pioneer Woman” Saturdays on Food Network.
