The Lonely Island star Jorma Taccone has revealed that he is ‘lucky to be alive’ after a horror fall at his home.

The Saturday Night Live favorite has been left unable to walk for at least three months after a 20ft drop from a ladder left him with a shattered pelvis.

During an appearance on the Lonely Island and Seth Meyers podcast, he kicked off the latest episode by shedding light on his injury, sharing that he is ‘lucky to be alive’.

Speaking to co-hosts Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer, the 48-year-old explained that he was on a ‘rickety’ ladder in the barn of his Connecticut farmhouse, preparing for his daughter’s birthday party, when tragedy struck.

‘I’m a very active guy. I love building things…,’ he began, before shedding light on his DIY project. ‘I was painting this barn and then I was like, as a final touch, I should hang these lights that will go around the eve of the barn.’

Jorma, who shares two children with wife Marielle Heller, recalled being warned by his neighbor that the ladder he had borrowed wasn’t stable, and didn’t ‘have a footing’, but used it anyway.

‘I lean it up against the thing, I’ve done most of the house – when this happens, I’m probably 20 feet off the ground on this very rickety ladder and I have it diagonal,’ the Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping star continued.

‘I felt it give way… In this moment, my life flashes before my eyes and I’m like, “Oh no, I’ve got to get off this ladder.”

‘I have enough time, as I’m falling, to be like, “I’m going to die. This is going to hurt a lot.” And I fall straight on my butt.

‘I do a lot of screaming and I’m cursing, keep in mind it’s my daughter’s fifth birthday party… It wasn’t the coolest way to start the day.

‘I already feel like numb… I hit the ground, I’m tangled up in the ladder, I know something’s really bad.’

Jorma, who came to fame on SNL in 2005, was rushed to hospital where he was told that his pelvis had shattered on the left, and his sacrum had also ‘shattered’ and detached from his spine.

However, he insisted that his ‘life-changing’ injuries – while painful – sound worse than they are, and his doctors suggested he will be walking again in ‘three to six months’ after acute rehab.

‘It’s been a really scary week,’ Akiva interjected said, to which he added: ‘It’s so weird to say this but I’m insanely lucky.

‘The craziest thing was that my doctor came in this morning and was like, “Oh yeah. if you’d landed on both your heels that would have been 10 times worse.”

‘I’m like, “10 times worse? I didn’t know pain at that level was possible.”

‘I’m just going to have to fight through the pain … it’s definitely no joke.’
