Cooper Koch Shares Supportive Personal Text From Lyle Menendez on Emmys Red Carpet

Ryan Murphy’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” is one of the most-watched series on Netflix. The show premiered in 2024 and received four Emmy Award nominations for the 2025 ceremony. Now, nominee Cooper Koch is revealing the text message that the real-life Lyle Menendez sent him ahead of the award show.

While on the red carpet, Koch was asked if he had heard from Menendez since the last court hearing. Koch said, “Yes. Lule sent me a message today, which was very sweet.” The actor continued, “Just saying, you know, it doesn’t matter about the accolades. All that matters is the awareness.”

Koch went on, “So, just happy to be here and spread awareness of that even more and, yeah.” Regarding the Menendez brothers, they have been in prison since 1996. However, there has been more interest in the case since Ryan Murphy’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” The two brothers requested parole but were denied in August 2025.

Koch Didn’t Prepare a Speech for the 2025 Emmy Awards

Elsewhere in the interview, Koch was asked if he had prepared a speech in case he won at the 2025 Emmy Awards. Notably, this was his first nomination. For many, he was a top choice to walk away with the award due to the show’s popularity.

Koch said, “No, I’m gonna wing it. Because… really? Colin Farrell is going to take it home. It’s not gonna be me.” The interviewer then noted that Koch has a one in five chance. He responded, “Sure. But you know, if it does happen, I will speak from the heart, and it will be great, and I will just say right now, the only thing that I wanna say is like, ‘Come on, let’s get these brothers out.”

Ultimately, Koch did not win the Emmy. Instead, Stephen Graham walked away with the award for “Adolescence,” which is also a Netflix series.
